--Fehringer can get pretty crowded during peak hours.

--They mow it as often as they can, but due to the terrain and vegetation in the field only main fairways get mowed. During the middle of summer the rough here on some holes can get pretty deep
--Due to it's location at the base of the foothills, when it gets windy here, the wind tends to swirl producing very different wind directions 50 feet apart.

A lot of people will mention the most challenging / aggravating thing about Fehringer is the OB Ditch. Yeah, it's there. Yeah, you get punished for running some putts if you miss depending on where you are putting from, but it adds to the challenge. If you are playing for score, push for those birdies on holes without the ditch, play for par on the tough ditch holes and hope for a mistake from your card-mates.

This course is a lot of fun. I may be a little biased because it's down the street from my house, but I learned how to play here, and I still really enjoy playing here. Despite knowing the holes inside and out, it's still challenging to play and just a generally fun course to hit up.

Due to it's proximity to the suburbs there can be an influx of people here especially late afternoon, early evening and all day on the weekends. Sometimes this results in you having to let faster groups play thru every 3 holes, sometimes you have to play thru slower groups every 3 holes, but it usually works out and everybody plays their round without interferring with anybody else.

Go play Fehringer, it's a blast!

-Shot variance. Though a VERY forehand friendly course, every shot in the bag is required. Distances varying from 186-500+ ft.

-Elevation change. You're going up or downhill on about 9 holes.

-Tee signs, pads, and navigation. Tees are nice, long, concrete pads. Multiple positions are mapped in color on very detailed signs, with current pin placement marked below. Stumps to sit on and hooks to hang bags on each pad as well, along with frequent trash cans. Course flow is obvious and easily navigable.

-The OB Ditch. Both a pro and a con, makes what would be an easy course quite challenging.

-Parking lot and practice area. Two separate practice baskets with a sweet four-way net serving as a driving range.

-Guarded pins. I would say about 13 holes have a very guarded basket and at least half of these holes play the OB ditch just feet from the basket.

-The waiting game. It's a good course to learn on, as you are unlikely to lose a disc or get annihlated by distance, and therefore draws a crowd. That crowd frequently includes a lot of beginners and large groups. This course CAN be played in an hour by two decent players, but only at noon on a Tuesday. If you're playing in peak hours or the weekend, be prepared to play through some people and wait behind others.

-The OB Ditch. I'm not against it per se, but despite a lot of holes being ace runs, you get punished for trying. You also get punished for running a number of 20 foot putts or by hitting the cage. Drawing metal on a 20-footer can STILL leave you OB putting to save bogey.

-Other park users. Again, not inherently opposed to multi-use park courses, but this one has a lot of traffic with some very sketchy crossing points.

This is a fun course. As a forehand predominant player, this is a REALLY fun course. I generally throw about even par here, and that is usually the result of combining a few OB ditch shots with some birdies on very forehand friendly holes. If you don't have a great backhand turnover, this course will punish you as a RHBH player. For the RHFH people out there though: PLAY THIS COURSE. You will have an advantage, and a rare opportunity to play 7+ 250-400 ft forehand skip-shots and spike hyzers.

The first 3 holes are all north of 300 and guarded, very rewarding birdies. If you've read this review, you can tell I'm very ambivalent on the OB ditch. It's small enough to be fair, but a stunning number of tee shots demand that you throw right at it to get the birdie. This is because the baskets on these holes are within LITERALLY 2 feet of the ditch. There was not a hole where the ditch was in play (minus 18) that left you more than 2.5 ft behind the basket on your putt. So not only can you be punished for attacking the baskets, if you bail out to safety you're still putting at Death. Given the 3 feet of relief you get from entering the ditch on an OB, it is WAY better to miss a tee shot close and save a drop in par then to putt a 25 footer, miss, and come back for bogey.

Some signature holes: The 6/7 Combo. A 186 foot gift that begs for a soft putter over the top, followed by a massive 489 foot bomb downhill at a pin 2 feet from the ditch. The first such pin you encounter.

#11: Plays 390 ft left to right, demanding a skip shot forehand through some "field goal trees" that needs to both get through and then settle before reaching the pin....2 feet from the ditch. I have no idea how a RHBH play for 2 would work.

#12: The Mound Hole. Basket is on top of a 20-25 ft tall mound, which unless you ace it, are unlikely to land upon. Better to lay up and take your medicine.

#17: Buried in the Ditch. Just Death. If you land right of the basket, you are OB. If You've done this by throwing a right to left shot, you were never in bounds and basically re-tee.

#18: Can it be reached? Yes, but you risk the ditch on the only hole where it crosses the fairway in the ideal landing zone.

All in all, almost a 4 disc rating, and for me it is a four-disc rated course. I acknowledge, however, that this is because I am a forehand thrower who loves the layout. The irony is that despite a ton of different pin placements, the holes that never change are the forehand shots. So come with one, or have on hell of a cut-roll turnover.

• Baskets & tees are all in good shape

• Great signage - shows distance and pin placements in photographs as well as next tees

• Super easy to navigate - Plays a nice loop. This is one of the few courses I've played where no map is really necessary, even for a first-timer. Each next tee is within eye-shot of the basket.

• Amenities - There's a port-o-john at the ample parking lot, a couple practice baskets, a driving net which is something I'd never seen before, as well as stumps at each tee if you need a sit plus plenty of trash cans.

• Decent mixture on distances, and great use of the available elevation. Plenty of RHBH's but there are some RHFH's tossed in there. Effective use of hazards whether it's the OB or trees.

• Front 9 to me was a little one-dimensional, despite the elevation - most of the variety comes in on the back 9.

• Not a lot of protection from the sun - if you play in summer, bring plenty of water and sunscreen and also be prepared for some long grass off-fairway.

• Potentially crowded at times? The day I played there were a couple groups in front as well as behind, but my timing was perfectly in between them all. That said, add a couple more groups to the mix and that changes things.

I was a little underwhelmed when I first pulled up to Fehringer, even w/ its ample parking, practice baskets and port-o-john. It just didn't look all that exciting.
However, I quickly realized not to judge this book by its cover. While the shot variety on the front 9 is a little lacking, the elevation helps make up for it as well as the variety in distance. There are some blind shots
here that may require light scouting. The back 9 really brings the OB creekbed into play. Several holes utilize it in one way or the other and in general
there seems to be more creative use of the landscape. A tale of two courses?
I can see where other players/reviewers might find the OB a little over the top, especially 17, but for me it added some fun challenges.
I particularly enjoyed - 11B, with the basket tucked away on the other side of the creek
- 12 with it's basket on top of the mound (be careful, a misplaced shot and you'll simply go right back down to the bottom)
- 13 w/ it's reuse of 12's mound to provide some difficulty off the tee
- 15, which has a thread-the-needle feel w/ a clear RHFH shot if you can make it in between the bike trail and creek
- the aforementioned 17 - I think it's a fun one b/c at least for a first timer, you don't realize at first that the creek bed branches into a bunch of sections, making the hole an OB minefield.

I enjoyed myself at Fehringer and consider it one of the more fun courses I've been able to play in the area so far. I'd definitely suggest it and will definitely be back.

-Out standing warm-up area (Multiple baskets for putting as well as a net for driving)
- Multiple pin placements on around half of the holes, and pin rotation is fairly common with at least 2-3 baskets being moved each month.
-Flat, concrete tees with a decent distance with in length and width.
-Easy to follow with very apparent trails from basket to the next tee box.
-Tee sign are helpful both in distance and location of each different pin position.
-A good mixture of shorter holes (less than 250) average holes (250-350) and big arm holes (350-500).
-Most holes have some obstacle if its OB, elevation changes, mandos, or trees).
-Shorter holes have long (Pro) tee pads to make the course more challenging.
-Baskets catch well are in good condition
-Wood chips have recently been placed around tees and baskets
-There are logs, stumps or benches to sit on on every tee.
-There is flags on the top of every tee sigh and each basket so a player can tell what direction the wind is blowing at every given time.

- During summer the fairways can become a little overgrown and the rough will eat discs (This is only relent on holes 7,9,11,13,14).
-If you find yourself out of fairway you will come across some rather nasty stickers that get stuck in your clothing.
-Its windy here more often then not, but that makes the game more interesting.
-This is a popular course for golfers in the Denver area so have some extra time if planning to play because the course can become crowed and slow moving.
-On a few holes (3,7,10,17) the OB becomes over the top with very frustrating and uncontrollable OB stokes with the OB being feet from the pin.

This course is a wonderful place for people of all skill level, as long as they have a positive attitude. Every shot is different in it is a prime example of how the sport is expanding. This is a great place for Coloradans to play in the winter as the show melts quick and the grass is under control. If you are a Pro or just a family trying to have fun this course will preset a enjoyable challenge.

Good signage, nice variation in height, several pin positions on some holes, some nice long shots and some narrower fairways.

Great view of the mountains even though it is a fairly flat course.

Not all the tee pads were concrete (though I met a team of awesome folks who said they would be pouring concrete on all of the tees on Saturday (8/6/16). I am not from the area so I cannot confirm if this was done.

Some signs were knocked over when I played.

Some holes are blind and they have several pin positions so you just sort of have to guess.

It is an open course but the grass can cause you to lose a disc.

No par listed on the holes, I just played everything as par 3.

I would definitely play again, especially if those tee pads are in the ground.

Also, I forgot to look but I think you can catch a view of Red Rocks from some of the holes!

Challenging course. There are quite a few long holes but there is also a nice mix of short holes that require a good throw from the tee to hit that birdie. Nice bag holders at every tee box. Tee boxes were fairly close to the previous basket.

Long grass could definitely use a mowing. Keep an eye on where your disc lands as we had to search for discs in the long stuff a few times. Missing baskets on a few of the holes. The tee boxes are clay rather than concrete which isnt a big con, just not sure they are going to hold up all that well over time.

The designers did a great job using the land provided. It is fairly wide open the first few holes but they did a good job after those making sure the trees along the creek came into play. The course could use some trash cans every few holes. Signage needs to be installed at all holes to show distance. Once the remaining baskets are put in this will be a really nice course, but dont let that deter you as the basket placements are in place. We just used the wood stakes as a temp basket. Look for orange flagging tape when a basket isnt visible from the tee box. Will definitely review again and give a higher rating when the missing baskets are installed.
