Pros:
This course will test every aspect of your wooded game. From putters, mids, drivers, left-right, up-down, it has it all, if you aren't looking for an open shot. It has zero of those.
Often times with tight wooded courses, you won't have a lot of length involved. This course doesn't have any super-long par 5's, but most of the 3's will require more than a putter up-shot on from the tee (same can't be said about Peaks View in Lynchburg).
There are two tee pads per hole, which will add an extra element of challenge for the top players. I shot -5 from the original tee's, but I could see the "a" tees being a lot more difficult.
There were some benches scattered on random holes as well as a practice basket at the parking lot.
There aren't any filler holes. If I recall correctly, each hole had a defined fairway. It wasn't a "close your eyes and cross your fingers" type of course. It's wooded and tight for sure, but if you can hit a line you'll do just fine.
Cons:
There are zero open shots. There also isn't any water or other significant hazard. Trees, trees and more trees. Oh and hills, don't forget those.
The course is not 2 9-hole loops. After hole 9, you're deep in the woods a long way from the parking lot. This doesn't bode well for tournaments/doubles etc...
There were a few instances of navigational struggles. The arrows after hole 2 or 3 are slightly misleading, just as an example.
The tee signs don't tell you much. Honestly, though, you don't need a lot of info. Most holes have the distances listed (which a few seemed a little suspect) and that's it. Again, you'll be able to see the basket from the tee in most instances, so a detailed tee sign isn't required.
Some of the holes felt a little repetitive. This is probably due to the fact that they're all in the woods and around 200-250 ft.
Other Thoughts:
The course is at the back of a beautiful college campus. I wish there were some way to incorporate the lake at the beginning of campus, but some call me a dreamer...
The main downfall of this course is that it's perhaps too easy. There isn't a single hole that couldn't be birdied fairly regularly. That doesn't mean it won't be fun to play. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area, if for no other reason than for a morale booster.
