Now featuring fairways! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

I played this course a few years back when it was still an 18 hole course. It was an overgrown, swampy nightmare. The fairways were literally non-existant. It was just a joke of a set up. I came back seeing it was redesigned just hoping for the best on a trip to rollin ridge and silver creek. I was pleasantly surprised. The course has been pared down to 9 holes (10 if you count the practice hole/ the old hole 1). This by itself is actually an improvement. Sounds odd but if you'd played the old layout you'd appreciate the new one. There are 2 baskets on most holes. The shorts are very short and the longs aren't much longer really. The course is flat but is pretty moderately wooded on every hole. The flow of the course is very easy to follow and starts and ends near the lot. The "well" basket was a cool touch. I also liked the hanging basket. The baskets are chainstars I believe, or something very similar that are in great shape and catch nicely. The course is permanent which I love to see and for this one it may actually be best to play in late fall/winter. The course is free and I'd assume never ever busy as it's in the middle of nowhereville WI.

Cons:

The course is set up in a swamp. I've never played a soggier, swampier course. In all honestly I don't know what realistically can be done to address this here. It will probably just always be wet so plan accordingly and deal with it. Nothing they can do about it. Another thing that can't be fixed and is an result of the swampiness is the bugs. With all the standing water the bugs are for real here.

Other Thoughts:

I was surprised to hear that this course was redesigned. This looked like one of those courses that was slapped in and ignored forever the first time I played it. I planned on never playing it again. But seeing that it was redesigned and it being on the way to RR, I figured I'd check the redesign out. A lot of work went into this and I personally feel that it is definitely an improvement over the old layout. This is not a course I'd ever go out of my way to play but if you're in the area it IS worth a round. Kudos to whoever is putting the work in to improve this course. It does show.
