Griffin Middle School 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 23, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Short with a few obstacles but a nice practice area.
-- Good place for total newbies or kids learning the game.
-- Someone showed some ingenuity by making single-chain baskets into double chains with some metal carabiner clips and additional chain.

Cons:

-- Baskets that were in bad shape in July 2019 have been repaired. On No. 2, the post was completely broken, and the basket was lying on the ground. No. 4 was learning badly, and the post appeared to be broken or about to break. All are now in good shape.
-- The "tee" pads aren't really tee pads. The stones mentioned in the previous review are mostly there, but they appear to be moved sometimes (perhaps whoever mows). On a previous visit, all of the tee marking stones appeared to be in place excpet for No. 5. Now, the stones for 5 are present, but 1 and 2 are not.
-- Navigation is not good, which is troubling for a six-hole course where all of the holes are in a mostly open field between the school building and the main road (North Colony Boulevard). The holes are short enough (my not big-armed playing partner threw putter off the tee on five of the six holes the first time I played the course) that numbering the baskets would take care of most of that problem.
-- Some baskets and tees are too close together. Nos. 3/4 are the worst example.
-- No benches, trash cans or restrooms.

Other Thoughts:

-- If you turn left into the school from North Colony Boulevard as soon as you pass the police station, etc., drive all the way to the end of the parking lot (south). The first "tee" is just on the other side of the bushes but does not play to the closest basket; that is No. 6. No. 1 is the basket farther away and closer to the driveway on the left. The course basically plays a clockwise loop around the field with No. 6 teeing from the middle of the field.

Griffin 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are 6 holes between the school and the street. This course is short with limit obstacles but a nice practice area.

Contrary to the previous reviews there are tee markers. They are number on rocks. There are two rocks roughly 3-4 feet away from each other that will have the number listed on it. The first hole is right by the driveway and parking lot behind the bushes shooting towards one of the holes under the larger tree. The second teeing area is to the west of the first basket, shooting directly ahead. The third teeing area is directly to the left of the 2nd basket and so on. The course makes a short loop that is easy to navigate with the 6th tee right in the middle of the field shooting back to the basket on the left closest to the parking lot under the tree.

Cons:

Not much of a challenge here but that isn't the purpose of the course. The baskets are single chained but are good enough for the shorter distances this course is. Navigation could be a little bit easier but if you read what I posted above it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice area to work on some upshots and putting if you live close by. This course is perfect for its intensions, getting kids exposed to the game. We always talk about growing the sport and providing an unchallenging, safe area for kids is perfect. The course is easy enough where kids won't get discouraged and gives them a good starting point before they can explore better courses.

Nothing more than 6 baskets on campus 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 10, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The area has 6 baskets.
No concern for being busy other than playing during school hours
A couple mature trees to create some difficulty

Cons:

No teepads or markers to start from
Not the highest quality of baskets
Nothing more than just some baskets in a field

Other Thoughts:

Not much there. Easy for course baggers, nothing more than that.
