Short but fun in Omaha

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 19, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+Large spacious city park just Southwest of downtown Omaha. Dog park, bathrooms, parking, playground, pond, walking paths also found here. The course doesn't take up much of the property and could probably be expanded if they wanted it to.
+More wooded than most urban park style courses. None of the lines were super tight. All were fair.
+Decent elevation for a park style course. Most holes featured some amount of elevation change. Most were gentle grades up or down. Hole 4 was a short hole with a decent drop.
+Ace runs available on many holes for most golfers. All holes are aceable by even intermediate arms.
+Turf tees were passable
+Baskets were nice. Not sure if homemade or painted silver versions of something else. They looked fine and caught well. All in good shape.
+Tee signs were good enough. Navigation was fine once I found the first hole. There was just one other hiccup where it is easy to skip 5 if you're not paying attention. That one is straight across, up the hill while 6 is the one to the left.
+Shouldn't lose a disc here at all unless you get hung up in a tree. Was pretty easy to stay out of the rough and it didn't look too bad. July or August might be a different story.

Cons:

-Lots of trash everywhere. It looked like someone was trying to hang trash bags of the tee posts but they really need some more permanent trash cans to help with this issue.
-Tee signs could have an overview of the hole to help make sure that you know where to throw on a few of the blind holes.
-The design was pretty cautious overall. I think there could have been more elevation used, more fast greens, more interesting tee shots. I'm sure that they were being cautious to avoid other park users, etc but I was envisioning a more fun version of this park while I was playing.
-It was a bit muddy when I was playing and erosion could be an issue in the future.
-This course isn't going to entertain advanced players very long. It is quite short. Nothing over 300' here.

Other Thoughts:

+If you are in Omaha, I would prioritize Hummel Park, Treasure Cove (Council Bluffs) and Seymour Smith before playing here. Those courses are all pretty fun and pretty different from each other.
+This course is fine. It could easily be expanded to a more challenging 18 if the parks dept wanted to. They will likely leave it as a beginner 9 though.
+Gerald Ford's birthsite and memorial gardens are right on the NW side of this park if you are into history.
