Reasonably fun, park style course with plenty of mature trees and nice elevation on a couple of holes. Located next to the Crowell Community Center in Detroit. Consists of 9 tees (natural), playing to 3 baskets.

• Variety: Passable - Distances from 158' to 368', many in the 260'-310' range.
All the holes are lightly wooded. No needles to thread, but nothing's completely out in the open. All 9 tees feature at least a few trees to work around. Most holes play fairly straight, with some degree of shot shaping needed to birdie a few holes. Tees are reasonably separated from the other two that play to the same basket, such that it changes the lines a bit. Sometimes the change is subtle, sometimes not as subtle.

• Challenge: Reasonable - Not super challenging to par holes, but there are enough trees to force legit lines. You'll have to earn birdies, and some kicks could bring bogey into play. Gotta give a thumbs up for being beginner friendly without boring me.

• Elevation: Decent - Tee's #'s 1 and 4 play from the top of pretty good hill to a basket below, and are fun to rip through the trees. Rest of the course plays flat.

• Aesthetics: Reasonable. I found the course and park itself as nice as many park style courses. Quiet and peaceful for my round.

• Equipment: Reasonable: The natural tees aren't bad on the whole, but footing was a bit tricky on a few. Tee markers are very basic, but get you to the next hole. DGA baskets are in great condition. Lollipops indicate which three tees play to that basket (see Other Thoughts). Three orange arrows on the basket spokes point toward each of the possible next tees. Snap a pic of the map at hole 1 if you aren't using U-Disc.

• Routing/Nav: Reasonable - Making your way around to three sets of tees to play 3 baskets ain't gonna be the simplest course to navigate. There's a minor wrinkle at the end, but it's not bad (see Other Thoughts).

• Fun factor: Pretty good overall. Great for those just starting out, and I still had fun as an experienced player. Lack of brush or scrub makes finding discs easy - hardly any chance of losing discs.

They got more right than they did wrong. I'm not gonna beat this place up for what it isn't.

• There's only so much you can do with 3 baskets on parcel this size, which kind of limits the possible variety. I think there's potentially room to add another basket or two, but 3 may have been all the budget allowed.

• A few of the tee areas were a bit bumpy

• Baskets were a bit tough to see from a few of the tees.

• 9 Tees playing to 3 baskets could be trouble if there's ever any volume of traffic... but that doesn't seem likely here

Keep in mind the sequence in which you play to each basket:
Tees 1,4,7: play to the same basket (as expected).
Tees 2,5,9: play to the same basket (not 2, 5, 8).
Tees 3,6,8: play to the same basket (not 3, 6, 9).
So first two times through, you play to all three baskets in the same order. But the 3rd time through, the course switches the order of the 2nd and 3rd basket. So playing the last two holes is non-intuitive, but not rocket science.

Didn't see any real potential safety issues, but I played on a very cold, windy day, when you're not going to run into much other traffic. I'm not at all familiar with the traffic (or lack thereof) at this park to say there are safety concerns. Players will simply have to exercise good judgement if people are walking in the woods or kids are playing nearby.

Found myself enjoying this course more than I expected. Don't take my 1.5 to mean this course is a waste of time. What's here is good, just limited by the fact that there's only 3 baskets. Thought about 2.0, but I think that implies a bit more than this course offers, but I won't complain when others throw higher ratings at it.

Quick, convenient, fun round for players living, working, or passing nearby. Worth bagging, but not bragging.
