A fun hike! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Lots of elevation change! This course is a hike and not for golfers who can't handle a bit of steep climbing. Good variety of uphill and downhill shots provides a fun challenge.

-Good variety of left and right hook holes.

-Good amount of technical holes with challenging threading required.

-The course is clean and well maintained.

-The brush is minimal so it's easy to find your disc

-Plenty of signage to make it easy to find the holes

-good amenities like an outhouse, small pro shop, and plenty of trash cans, recycling cans, and benches.

-friendly staff that will happily answer your questions and make you feel welcome

Cons:

The only flaws I can think of are really limitations of the terrain and possibly the lay of the land and property lines, so I would not put a ton of blame on the course designer.

- Most of the holes were relatively short. The elevation change does a good job of challenging the average disc golfer to throw harder than you'd think you would have to, but I missed the chance to see a beautiful long flight except for 1 or two holes. It would be nice to have a couple 450' + holes.

-No open holes. A wide open course is boring, but a course with a couple open field type holes can add some beauty and variety to your disc golf experience.

Other Thoughts:

This course was well worth the $5 I spent to play it. Very good use of the mountain and a good variety of holes overall. Fun, clean and challenging enough. I would love to come back and play it again, and I wouldn't mind driving a couple hours to do it. If you like a bit of mountain adventure in your disc golf game, come check it out!

Pros:

Heavily wooded course, which makes it excellent for those that demand technique over the redundancy of wide open courses. Many elevation changes, which one would expect when playing in the mountains of western Maine. Fairways have plenty of wood chips. Teeing off a cliff, is my idea of adventure and that's what I want when playing, once again, it sure beats throwing a disc from a tee pad into an open field. I feel as though the Pars are appropriate, the Maps/Signs at each tee are basic, yet descriptive enough to exemplify where the baskets are and how much the elevation change affects the distance of your toss. There are plenty of benches to relax on throughout the course as well as garbage cans, recycling cans and ashtrays for you to dispose of your crap along the way. $5 to play all day...

Cons:

36 holes would be nice...

Other Thoughts:

The family that runs this course are very friendly and always on site. They have a nice shop with limited drinks and snacks, so make sure you bring plenty of fluids to keep hydrated if you plan on playing a few rounds. There is a trail to the top of the property from the basket on #11, which isn't for the faint hearted, though the views from atop are well worth the journey. And you cannot miss the tree houses, which are very well constructed and beautiful inside and out. TimberStone DGC is a wonderful place to come spend your days and your nights if you decide to rent a tree house...

Timberstone Adventures 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 30, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of elevation changes, serious downhill drives, some uphill play. Heavily wooded course, but fairways are nicely cleared. Pars are appropriate, nice signs. Course is run by very nicce hospitable family.

Cons:

There are a few alternate tee boxes with wild elevation. A nice thought, but not actually very good for play. Better to stick to the lower ones.

Tee boxes themselves are kind of cheaply made. 2x4's instead of 4x4 or larger for the border and some kind of printed and cut concrete pavers, but they move alot under your feet and break concentration.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a fun course to play. Pay to play, but its a family owned deal on private land so thats how it goes. They have innova discs for sale. The tree houses look really cool, but I cant review without staying (or hearing a price). Definitely worth the visit.
