Island course in neighborhood park

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a pretty and tiny neighborhood course on an island. Tybee Island fronts the city of Savannah for a significant amount of wilderness. The course is in a small neighborhood park with a baseball field and walking/cycling paths. The park is inside of the beach dunes and a ring of residential subdivisions. Having two pads per hole gives lovely variety in a very efficient way. The longer pad at each hole is a (totally) different strategy to get to the basket than the short pad. I really like that. The creek in the middle of things is pretty despite being rather stagnant. Hopefully, ocean water backs up in there and flushes things out from time to time. The Tybee Island lighthouse is literally a 10- to 15-minute walk away from the disc golf course. The park has a sizeable and clean restroom at its main parking lot. There is another parking lot near the basket of no. 4.

Cons:

There is conflict with other sports: the baseball field as well as the crushed red-rock paths the walkers and cyclists are using. It's a busy but not overrun park, so this should be manageable. The last three holes (7-9) have conflict with exercise stations, especially no. 8. Holes 1, 2, and 6 are bordered by streets. You can be OB really fast. That's not really a con so much as just a statement of the truth.

Other Thoughts:

Certainly, if you are visiting Tybee Island for the oceanfront, the lighthouse, the pier, etc., you should also add this little disc golf course to your Tybee Island beach frolic. As resort-area disc golf courses go, this one is pretty sweet. On Tybee Island, you do have to pay everywhere you park if you are not a resident. You can move your car (with just one purchased ticket on the dashboard) to wherever else you are going. It's a day-long ticket for $10 and some change. I like that, especially compared to other beach parking I've encountered on both US coasts that nickel and dime you to death and have you running back to the meter over and over. So start early and get your $10's worth. From Old Town Savannah and its suburbs, Tybee Island is a perfect day trip. I understand there is kayaking in the back bay. And there is a delicious crab shack deep in the back bay that is worth the stop before returning to the mainland.

Solid 9 hole course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

New basketsNot crowdedCool scenery No teepads but clear defined blue and red markers

Cons:

No tee signs yetNo distances marked yetNo direction markers so sort of hard to find the next hole

Other Thoughts:

Course is new so needs feedback for improvements. I added the map of the blues on UDisc. Red markers are generally 5 to 10 feet shorter than blues
