Nothing like finding a course that makes you feel good! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A great course for those beginning in disc golf.
- Nice clean park and beautiful fairways.
- Definitely a lot of short holes but also a course where a player can recover from mistakes.
- Other players are really nice and makes this a place I want to return to in the future.
- A few of the holes definitely make a player work for their "money shots"

Cons:

- Not many cons here.
- There are a few holes that do run parallel to each other, so be careful of errant throws.
- Irrigation has caused a few issues in spots. The grass hides some really wet spots. But, I think that is part of the fun of playing a course. You need to learn to play what is in front of you.

Other Thoughts:

I see a lot of comments about the length of the course holes. Anyone who knows the history of the original course and the history behind the name of the park will know there is a reason for this. Johnny Roberts, to many, including myself, was the Godfather of Disc Golf. With the recent redesign of the course.

This is a welcoming course for many. I look forward to getting my kids to play this course so that they can get comfortable and happy with throwing their discs.

Best Putt and Approach course I've played 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Super clean park. Beautiful scenery which is important. Fun hole design. You can play this course with a starter pack. I look forward to playing this course on my yearly trip out to Colorado.

Cons:

Super busy. This course is always busy but luckily you will not be waiting long to throw as traffic seems to move quickly.

Other Thoughts:

You cannot compare this to some of the epic courses in Colorado, that's not what this is trying to achieve. This course is about getting people in the community to play disc golf and for that it excels 100%. This course is packed with all level of players. It's fun for me to try and Ace run most holes and generally have a good time. It's good old fashioned fun.

Typical cons like hole length, shot variety/shot shaping requirements really don't apply to this course for me as it's a Pitch and Putt course. Great course for beginners to throw a full bag and great course for INT and ADV players to work on shot shaping, fast casual play and 1 disc challenges

Pros:

Well maintained putter course.

Accessible by G line's Arvada Old Town light rail station and easy 10 minute walk.

Cons:

Very busy course, even on weekdays.

Other Thoughts:

Best approach and putter practice in Denver's metro area.

Crown jewel of short-course golf 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you're used to playing mountain courses or rougher, more natural terrain, get ready to have your mind blown. You'll feel like a pampered PGA golfer entering this course with mowed lawns, impeccable tee boxes, concrete-circle greens and high-quality baskets. Playing this course opened my eyes to the joys of shorter courses and being able to focus on playing precision golf instead of crushing distance shots. It can get crowded so either show up early or be prepared to relax and wait for groups ahead of you. Even intermediate players will snake a few birdies on this course and feel like heros.

Cons:

If you like longer holes or elevation changes, this course offers none of that. All good though, it's important for your game to play all different types of courses!

Other Thoughts:

Leave your driver in the car. No holes over 300 feet on this course, most are in the 220foot range. Enjoy throwing your mid-ranges and putters (you'll throw your putter off the tee box for some shots) and working on your accuracy.

Usually a cool group of locals frequenting here and I have showed up as a single and joined fun games on two of my visits.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 15, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great layout! So much fun to play. Even with rookies. Holes are short enough that even the rookies can throw birdies. Still technical enough to be fun short game work.

Cons:

Too well known. Arrive early or get stuck behind doubles.

Other Thoughts:

Take the putter challenge and see how much your short game improves.

Very fun short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 22, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really had fun playing this course! The short holes were well marked and the trees and water provided plenty of challenges!
Practice basket, nice tee boxes and baskets

Cons:

The course was very crowded for the an early weekday
Some of the holes felt a little crammed together (but necessary for the amount of land used)

Other Thoughts:

I would definitely recommend this course to others, particularly those just beginning

Johnny Roberts DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 8, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Really well made signs for each hole listing par, distance for both A and B pin locations, and a hook to hang your bag or whatnot from.
-scenic park with a Ralston Creek running through it. Throws into the water are usually easily retrievable.
-Short distances perfect for beginners, your pregnant wife, and practicing your putting. Take the Johnny Roberts challenge and use putters only!
-There's a disc golf store just west of the park on Ralston called #9908. The owner is a cool dude, but prices are a little high.

Cons:

-This course gets BUSY! Expect to have groups ahead and behind you and the other 15 holes if you go on the weekend or nearly any other time.
-It takes a long time for snow to melt in the winter due to the constant shade from big park like trees. Can be icy in winter.

Other Thoughts:

-Leave your speed 14 in the car. You don't need anything faster than a speed 4 Putt and Approach disc. It even says on the rules sign putters only. If you have a good short game you can bag some really great scores here. If you have a pregnant wife she will still be able to par here.

A nice walk through the park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is very well maintained. They tees are concrete and the pins are easy to spot. Fairways are grass and well kept.

Cons:

If you visit on a weekend you may get quite a bit of civilian foot traffic so be careful. The course is not very difficult so there tends to be large groups of first timers and novice players who will usually let you play through and are friendly.

Other Thoughts:

If you are used to long drives this course could be a challenge for you. The course has shorter more technical holes that don't tend to have much distance. Try playing with only a putter.

J-Robs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 12, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a great course to play for beginners and those wanting to practice their short game. Most of the holes have ace opportunities but they aren't straight ahead or without obstacles. I'm a relatively new player and love this place because you need to do some shot shaping and have distance control. Even as a newer player I can get by with a mid and putter here. People have been super friendly here as well, lots of good advice to me and my girlfriend.

Cons:

Can be very crowded, even during the week. I haven't played on a weekend yet but I can imagine it would be jammed. There is a creek that runs through and is a water hazard on a couple holes. Not necessarily a bad thing but something to be aware of, you can lose a disc here.

Other Thoughts:

Great course for beginners, if you're pressed for time (granted it's not jammed with people), or for practicing your approach game.

Good for a fun time 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Lots of different lengths
-Beautiful park
-provides a nice challenge
-lots of verity from hole to hole ( trees, water, hills, flat plain, exa.)

Cons:

- hole 5 goes over a river; there is lots of branches in the line over the water so easy to lose disc
- There is only the A course OR the B course up at the same time. Not more then 1 basket per hole
-very confusing to find way from hole to nest tee when there is snow on the ground.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the best courses I have ever played. The 5th hole is a large rick of losing disc (Like yours truly). Also its not overly crowed.

The "New Johnny Roberts" 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Brand new nicely made tee boxes
-Great signage, explains OB's and Mando's
-Each tee has two pin placements
-Each basket has a nice brick outline around it
-Easy to navigate

Cons:

-Shorter holes from what everyone is used to at Johnny Roberts, this however does not take away from how fun the course is since they try and make it more challenging with obstacles
-Crowded as it always is

Other Thoughts:

Before I knew it was open I had people saying that they already tested it out and was not a good course because its too short. I think this is a good course for beginners and a good course for advanced players to get better at their short game and technical shots and a way to get a few more aces added under your belt. Overall this is a great new course in the area and is a good change from the badlands/westminster scene.
