Pros:

La Farge DGC is located in the Kickapoo river valley. This is a beautiful section of WI. Kind of gives off WV vibes. The course is located in a tiny town and probably is never to busy. Not a single soul was seen out there on a comfy Saturday afternoon in May.

The baskets are all Chainstars. These are all mounted nice and level and catch great. The orange on the center pole helps making spotting them a bit easier, especially in the wooded section. One pin position per hole.

The tee signs are pretty decent here. Routered wood signs that feature a basic hole map, hole # and distance. Basic but plenty serviceable. These are mounted on 6 to 7 foot red posts which helps with locating the tee pad.

The balance of hole types is split pretty evenly between open and more technical, wooded ones. The first 10 holes play in a large park like area. These are mostly open but nearly all of these have at least a tree or two you have to contend with. Holes 11 through 17 play in the wooded section, and this is really where the fun picks up imo.

Hole 11 is still mostly open but there's some marshy junk just off the fairway along the right. Hole 12 gets you into the woods for real. Nice little left bending hole that's blind off the tee. Hole 13 is a fun shot down the path with the basket tucked to the left side of the fairway. Hole 14 is one of the two "signature" holes I'd say. It's a shorty but there's tight lines to reach the pin, which is a slightly elevated hanging basket. Pretty hole. 15 is right bending shot over a berm, blind from the tee. Hole 16 is the best hole. It's only 230 feet, but there's a pond starting about 180' off the tee and extending probably 15' short of the basket. Awesome risk reward hole.

The course itself was very clean and looked to be quite well maintained. Theres 4 practice baskets across from the parking area too. Looked to be 1 Chainstar and 3 homemade looking deals. Permanent and free to play.

Cons:

The tee pads are natural. While not super worn out or anything, there was a few slick spots on the spring afternoon we played it.

As mentioned in a previous review, a couple of the holes play extremely close to some backyards. It's impossible to tell where the yards actually start or stop.

The front 10 and hole 18 get a little bit repetitive. Lots of similar looking shots. It'd be nice if there was more of the woooded section to work with. Unfortunately it looks like they used all of it that was available.

It wasn't when we played it, but being next to the river and some swampy areas, I imagine the mosquitoes can get pretty gnarly out here. Not a con really, more a warning. Bug spray should be brought with.

Other Thoughts:

I wasn't too sure what exactly I'd encounter out here. I was pleasantly surprised though. This is a fun little course that I'd gladly play again. Whether I ever do or not depends on if I ever make it out this way again. It's not really too close to anything. Really out in the sticks, but that's half the charm of this place.

Worth checking out for sure. Plus the drive out there is one of the most scenic you'll encounter in WI.
