A well cared for Up-Shot course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Quality baskets, permanently mounted.
- Informative tee-signs.
- Although short, there's a good mix of shots required.
- Clearly defined fairways.
- #9 basket can be used as a warmup basket.
- Natural tee pads are in good shape and fit in well here.
- Very well cared for by the local club...gives a good vibe.

Cons:

- Punishing rough.
- Very little shade on hot days.
- Disc loss can be an issue.
- Very short.
- Navigation can be confusing.
- Not the most eye-appealing place to play.

Other Thoughts:

-La Junta DGC is a very short beginner/putter course that plays among a road debris dumping area. It's not a 'dump' for trash, but it looks like leftover dirt and asphalt was dumped here at one time, and the course plays between a lot of these mounds. You'd almost expect to see kids riding dirtbikes here.

- Leave the drivers in the car, and grab your favorite throwing putter. Most of the shots feel like scrambles or simple upshots. Keep that in mind, and this isn't a bad place to bring a few putters for practice rounds.

- The local club obviously takes care of the course. Tee signs were "Realtor" temp variety but in very good shape as well as informative. The grass was mowed in several areas around baskets and in fairways. It has a very well-cared-for feel and made for a better experience than just a bunch of baskets tossed in a field.

- The trees here are like velcro and you should expect a lot of scratched arms if your disc gets tangled in them. You will also have no shot afterward, so well-placed up-shots are a must on many holes. This can be discouraging for beginners but adds challenge for more experienced players.

- Final thought: This is a fine place to bring a beginner after they have spent some time in a field learning the basics, but it could be frustrating if they've never thrown before. A skilled player however would not find much here to challenge themselves with. The surprising thing though was how well this place was cared for. Usually, courses like this lose their appeal quickly and show signs of neglect, but this place looked like it was tournament day. A nice experience was had by all.
