INFO
The private, gated community of Lake Kiowa in Gainesville, TX features a 9-hole recreational course below a spillway on the south side of Lake Kiowa. The course traverses a treed hillside and then works its way down to open grassland beside a shaded creek.

EVAL
Lake Kiowa DGC makes admirable use of its varied terrain to create a layout that generates plenty of excitement with only nine holes. This thrilling, recreational level course warms up with approachable uphill and downhill throws over somewhat rocky ground beneath tall trees, including a blind dogleg shot to the top of a hill where the course's signature hole awaits. An intimidating cliff shot throws out over a fenced maintenance area, curving hard to the left down to the grassland below. The remainder of the course finishes with longer holes across open field interrupted by a cozy, tunnel shot through trees beside a creek. This short circuit impresses with its good mix of elevation changes, obstacles and distances.

Timber framed, packed gravel tees offer questionable footing on most holes. Custom signage, including a course map at the start, provides good direction. The layout feels very friendly and accessible except for the signature cliff shot hole that plays as an extreme dogleg left, even more so than it's tee sign depicts, and makes for a tough but memorable challenge.

NOTE
This course is an amenity for members of the Lake Kiowa community and their guests. Public access is not permitted.

LAYOUT
The course begins with three short, hilly holes near the parking lot which wind back and forth, leading next to a couple of tricky, dogleg holes atop the hill at the edge of the property - one slightly uphill to the right and the other extremely downhill and far to the left. Then the rest of the course stretches out over a grassy field beside trees where three of the last four holes offer open fairways to fly over while across a small creek one hole briefly enters the trees for a shaded tunnel shot out of the woods.
