Hilly City Park in Iowa 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 29, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+Nice Innova Baskets
+Great elevation changes on this park. Hole 1,5,6,7,8,9 all have some decent elevation change in play.
+Course is pretty easy to follow and doesn't interfere too badly with other park activities like some other similar city parks.
+No holes are totally wide open, there are at least a few obstacles per hole and sometimes more. Between the elevation and the trees, some holes are likely to create big scoring spreads. Hole 6, for example, is short at around 200 feet. It also has a fairly protected fairway with a low ceiling. It also drops 30 feet from tee to basket and has brush about 5 feet behind the basket. You could ace this hole or throw a 5, especially if your group plays woods OB.
+The signs that are present are great (see cons)

Cons:

-Rough natural tees. They are dirt/mud. Many have hardened into unusable surfaces
-Some tee signs missing.
-Not a ton of distance variety.
-Hole 4 kind of plays over the mini fenced in soccer field thing. They did a pretty good job of avoiding the other park things.
-Hole 6 basket placement is a bit difficult for many players. Might be more fun if they put it down the hill more to the left or something. You want to ace run in but if you miss, you are 30 feet deep into thick brush.

Other Thoughts:

+Overall, this course had a high fun factor and I will return. I enjoy courses with elevation gain and loss as added challenge.
+If they put in concrete tees and added back the missing tee signs, this course could become a 3.5 for me. A second set of tees or alternate basket positions could be a lot of fun too.
+Other park amenities include: bathroom, playground, swimming pool, shelter, tennis courts, mini soccer court.

Update on 8/3/21: After playing the course a few more times, I changed it's rating to a 2.5. The design and overall play are solid but the tees are pretty bad and I pick up a fair amount of garbage every time I play here. Both of those take away from my experience here.

Good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to navigate. It's tough to lose discs. It's not incredibly difficult but there are challenging holes.

Cons:

It'd be a little nicer if it had at least one 4 or 5. The tees aren't great but they're ok.

Other Thoughts:

Weekend has a lot of foot traffic

"Middle" level Sioux City Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Tee sign is vert detail and shows "suggested" flight path.
- Nice use of trees and elevation.
- Near another 9 hole course within 10 mins to make it a 18 hole course.
- DISCatcher baskets
- Moderate level skill course

Cons:

- Play around playground, tennis court, a couple of baseball fields and a swimming pool.
- Takes 19 mins to play solo.
- Hole #7 plays close to backyards
- No Bowl hole
- Swimming Pool could swallow your disc, but it has to be a real errant throw.

Other Thoughts:

The 3rd city disc course was labeled as " middle" level course that is plays around an utilize park with a playground, grill shelters, tennis courts, fenced baseball fields and a swimming pool. In the warmer season you may have to play around people having gatherings at the shelters or using the baseball fields. The course has trees at strategic locations like near the tee or hole but its not woody. Some trees will force you to choose between different flight paths then what maybe "Suggested" on the tee sign. There are also some holes that use elevation both up and down to make the course a little more difficult but nothing hard. Hole #7 plays next to back yards and Hole #9 next to the swimming pool, shouldn't lose disc unless you throw a really errant disc.

Hammer Throw Capability: 0/5

Overall: Possible ace holes with some trees deciding on how you play and some elevation which deserves the "Middle" level assigning for difficulty. Not the best but not bad for a quick round.
