Great intermediate course

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 3, 2024 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great scenic park right on Lake Michigan which means views of downtown Chicago on clearer days. The course routes very logically. While there's a few holes with trees that can interfere with a poor throw, there's not any woods through the woods that are adjacent. To me this is a positive although I understand wooded holes are favored by some.

Best holes: 2, although short is a nice little hole with trouble right. But it's the kind of hole I can see someone getting their first ace at.

4 is unique playing to a basket only 190 feet or so, but it's halfway up the dune and is well protected by trees and it'd be pretty easy to catch a roller on the hill on your tee shot or putt and it'd roll all the way down into the street.

5-10 are fairly standard parkland holes.

11 goes up a steep dune that really limits the distance of your throw and is harder to reach even though it's under 200 feet. Risk of rolling down dune is very real.

12 is a short hole but with a big drop and a tree near the tee limiting your line possibilities.

13. Is a challenging hole along the park road which looms closely so timing your shot until the traffic and pedestrians clear is recommended.

14-17 more parkland holes, nothing special.

18. A great finishing hole. Some risk of losing disk to the right as native plants on the dunes grow pretty thickly. But it requires a precise t shot if you want to finish with a birdie.

Carpeted tees and signs are updated, although UDisc hasn't caught up on a few distances so be sure to read the signs.

Cons:

I really appreciate people who take the time and frequently their own resources to build a course free of charge for us to use so I really don't like to complain about anything. As Marquette Park is a public park I can see summertime as there being some moments where you'll have to be careful not to hit picnickers or strollers. Wind will be an impact because of the lake.

Other Thoughts:

The course abuts an enticing wooded dune that has some really great possibilities for disc holes. But apparently the woods are off limits for disc golf hole development.

I'm not sure of other courses that play right along Lake Michigan, certainly in the Chicago area this is the only one. This is a huge benefit of this course to me. I hope it's successful!
