Good intown course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Clean and well kept. good baskets.

Cons:

Needs signs. Also gets busy on weekend evenings, but is that a bad thing?

Other Thoughts:

Good in town course, but to me they should get rid of hole 4 all together rather than its new pin location. Already moved the protecting bushes and now the basket is danger zone on people driving on holes 5 and 6. Should move all hole numbering back one after hole 3 and make hole 9 area into 2 hols rather than one. lasts more unused space,

NEW Course in Aberdeen! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 18, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Some Fun Shots. For a relatively open, city park course, there were a couple really fun shots. Nothing mind-blowing or monumental, but nothing terrible either. The Holes seemed to be on the longer side of things, allowing you to air out a few bombs off the tee.
- Going to Improve. This course is still new... so new in fact that it hadn't been added to DGCR, yet. I played the course with one of the course designers, and he told me about the future plans for concrete tee-pads and dual tees and pin placements. ALSO, I was only in town because they asked me to come by and discuss the idea of creating the tee-signs and scorecards for the course as part of my Nature Trail Disc Golf Course program... so, those may be in the works soon, too!

Cons:

- Seemingly Too Long... especially for the clientele. Based on the number of other DG courses in the region, I'd imagine that the DG scene in Aberdeen is somewhat young... and that the average player may not be ready for some of the 390' or 425' golf holes. But, the holes are relatively wide open and they should give the novice players plenty of practice at letting them rip while fulfilling the needs of the more advanced players.
- Natural Pads. As I said before though, the course is brand new and new pads are in the plans for the course.

Other Thoughts:

- Richmond Lake State Park.... is 20 minutes outside of town. If you're looking for the better course to play in the region, I would go to Richmond Lake. It's an 18-Hole course with a better variety of shots. However, Melgaard has a completely different feel (open and grassy vs. dirt and wooded), offering the citizens of this region with a different style of play.
- Overall. I had a good time at Melgaard Park. It was my 275th course, and I wasn't mad at it in any way. I got to play the course with one of the course designers which gave me good insight into the design and future plans for the course. If you happen to be around the region, you should definitely give the course a shot... if for no other reason but to play a course in Aberdeen.
- My Score - Even
