Pros:

The course is in a very pretty area, surrounded by Western MD and Southern PA mountains. The property itself, although on a very small footprint, is excellent for disc golf. There are a couple small streams running through the property and some nice rock formations (not yet in play on the course). Scott and Nic are excellent hosts. It's a bit off the beaten path, but not hard to find with the directions on the course home page, or with GPS. Google Maps took me right there. It's about 20 minutes off of I68 from either Cumberland or Frostburg, MD.

The holes range from about 150'-450', with the longest par 3 at about 375'. Off the tee there is a nice mix of straight, right turning and left turning holes. Some of the doglegs/turns in the holes are severe and encourage interesting shot selections. The par 4s require good tee shot placement, more than distance, to have birdie chances. Most of the holes play either uphill or downhill to varying degrees, with just a couple holes basically level. The holes are mostly moderately wooded, with a couple being heavily wooded (more later) and a few mostly open. One hole has a fun island green to play to and a couple pin locations are nicely placed in the woods. One raised basket is planted nicely on top of a large stump.

Cons:

The course is made up of 18 tee shots throwing to 6 "practice type" baskets. A couple catch quite well and a couple are scary to putt on, even from close range. The tees are either natural, or directly on Mile Lane. The natural tees are mostly level, but some are in rocky or muddy areas, so your run or x-step can be severely limited. The fact that some of tees are, literally, on the road is unconventional. The footing is good... You just have to pay attention for traffic. Fortunately this is a back road for sure, and I didn't see much traffic.

Since there are just the 6 baskets, you're approaches to the greens will vary, but once you're in the circle, you're variety of putts will be limited. Several holes play very close to the two homes and some out-buildings on the property. Multiple tee shots and approaches will have you throwing almost directly at, or in-between, the homes. Two holes play through such a tightly wooded area, filled with mature trees, vines, sticker bushes, and saplings, that it's hard to see any line off of the tee that could be consistently hit (by me anyway).

Other Thoughts:

I've known Scott for years, actually since before either of us even played disc golf. We even played our first tournament together, over a decade ago. If you read the course description on the home page, it's almost like a review. There is a lot of detail about the course so you should have a pretty good idea of what the course is like before going. It's a course set up for family fun, but they have been kind enough to open up the course to others. The video run-through is also a nice addition on the media tab.

Scott and Nic both seemed perfectly OK with the holes playing around the houses. It just made me a little nervous. It was also funny that Scott seemed to know almost everyone who drove by. Most cars slowed down and waved as they went by. One driver even asked us how we were playing.

They are still working on improving the course. Much like my own KMDGC, this course is obviously a labor of love for them. There are always things to be cleaned up, changed, and improved. But I totally understand how wonderful it is to walk out the door and, literally, be on the course.

There's nothing to be done about the size of the property. The houses and the road aren't moving. But like my title says, playing the course is a lot more fun than the 1.5 rating would indicate. The variety of holes is very entertaining and enjoyable. So if you take this course for what it is, a fun place to play some disc golf with some nice people, I would hope that you would enjoy yourself. I know I did.
