Pros:
This course is located in a beautiful park in the hills of Neuchatel behind the train station. It's walkable from the station, but be mindful that it's a hike, you probably gain 150 meters of elevation on the way up. The park has stunning views of the lake and the mountains and the scenic beauty here is rivaled by few other locations in the world.
The baskets here seem brand new. They are bright yellow and easy to spot. The grass is well groomed and very green. The flow of the course is good, giving you a few shorter holes to warm up on before the long distance kicks in later. While it isn't a true loop, the 18th hole does get you back mostly to where you started from. The park is very clean and there is no hazardous foliage to mention. The place is also meticulously clean.
The elevation here is a blast. There are a number of very fun downhill throws and challenging uphill shots. More challenge is present in the form of tough OB and Mando shots. There are a number of very long distance holes here too, and there are also a couple ace runs that are still pretty challenging. It's quite possibly one of the most challenging courses in Switzerland. Standout holes on the main layout include hole 3 (downhill with a double mando), 7 (longer, downhill with the tee in the surrounding woods), 10 (tight, short ace run), 11, 12 and 13 (all very long par 4's with a really tough OB on 12) and 16 which shoots over the street into the park from the woods.
Restrooms and a restaurant with good beer and probably good but expensive Swiss cuisine are found on site. Parking is convenient and it seems that most of the people who frequent this park have no idea what the baskets are for. I was here on a Saturday and we were the only ones playing and others in the park looked at us as if we came from another planet.
The "Disc People" club in Switzerland also holds a nice tournament in the Spring, which is a blast. It's a great way to meet other golfers in Switzerland and a few came over from France to play too. The tournament also made me realize that some of the weird tees that I found on my first round are part of a reversed layout that we played on the second day of the tournament. I've uploaded the map of that to the links section in case any one is curious to give it a whirl. It's awesome, because the course has two different layouts that are more than 6000 ft. Standout holes on the reverse layout include 6 ( a nice little ace run), 7 (an insane 200 meter hole that uses the same rough OB on regular 12), 9 (a rough par 5 that plays the fairway for 11 in reverse), and 14 (tough downhill shot from way back in the woods).
Cons:
The tees here are definitely a con. They're grass tees with a plank that functions as a fault line. The tees have no distance or par info, and some of them aren't very level. They can get really muddy during and after the rain too. The baskets aren't numbered either so sometimes it's not clear which basket you are supposed to throw at. Navigation here can also be a bear, because there are no tee signs. It is IMPERATIVE that you download the map from this page because otherwise you will have a very frustrating round. So, bring a course map, it will save you much frustration.
With all of the woods that surround this course, it seems that there could have been more trees incorporated here. Other than a few tees in the surrounding woods the rest of the course is pretty wide open. Obstacles in general are few and far between, but between the elevation, OB and Mando (that are only marked on the map, btw) this course is still quite challenging. Most shots are pretty straight though, it would have been nicer to see more curves, but without obstacles, it's hard to have those.
Other Thoughts:
If you're in Western Switzerland, you need to come play here, just to see the place. It's downright beautiful. It would be nicer to see some trees and some more varied lines, but this is a fun grip n rip course with a lot of elevation. Just make sure you have a map cause the layout here is very confusing. Once you figure it out, it should be a great time.
