Pros:
All baskets are very nice Discatcher Pros, and are all in excellent condition. All but the first long tee have rubber tee boxes, making these the best tee boxes in the Las Cruces - El Paso area. There is a signboard near the parking area with a satellite image map of the course that's easy to follow, although a little hard to read the distances on. This area is disc golf only - no chance of hitting anyone or of being subjected to public ridicule, making this is a good course for beginners to build confidence.
Cons:
The area this course has been squeezed into is a mostly flat, treeless, obstacle free patch of nothing but scrub brush and cacti. No matter where you throw, you will land in the scrub brush, so there's no reward for accuracy, the main challenges presented by this course are finding your disc in the bushes, trying not to step in a pile of cacti, and avoiding spontaneous combustion from the total sun exposure. No real tee signs to speak of, but a minor issue compared to the course's other deficiencies.
Other Thoughts:
The designer of the new layout did a good job of what little he had to work with, the course flow is safe, convenient, and easy to follow, but in order to make this an enjoyable course competitive with other courses in the area, fairways will have to be cleared, obstacles and shade structures ala Brent Baca Memorial will have to be installed, and maintenance will have to be done regularly. It might be possible to bring fully grown trees in, like they've done with the new pecan trees planted around the athletic fields across the street.
