Oak Park is a good one for sure. It's fairly flat, but there is some contour on several holes, especially near the end. Parts of the course are kind of heavily wooded, but usually there is a nice line with plenty of airspace. Quite a bit of OB, creeks ponds and a river, as well as a some mandos push up the difficulty by a degree. Some long par 3's and a couple of par 4's give you a chance to test the arm.

Two tees for each hole. The tees are concrete and they have good signs. The baskets are all in nice condition. Pin placements are usually in a spot that is protected by trees or on a slope to add some thought to how you make the approach.

My favorite holes are 17 and 18. They play along the ridge of the levee, and have the most elevation change. 17 is near 500 feet from the long tee, making for a hard par 3. The tee is atop the ridge, with a reedy creek to the right and a couple of trees on the left. The pin is at the bottom of the ridge on the left side, and the basket is raised on a tall pin. Dial in on that approach. 18 also tees on top of the levee, but there is a heavy patch of rough blocking the right side. The pin is in a low spot as the ridge comes closer to street level, and is totally surrounded by trees and rocks. It's a tough drive to keep out of the trees until near the end, when you need to enter at the right place. Another tricky par 3.

The course layout is kind of choppy, crossing the road multiple times. There is a long walk after a couple of holes, and places where you might skip a hole if you're not familiar with the sequence. Have a good look at the map and grab a screenshot to take along the first time through.

Walking trails will have pedestrians of all ages walking near the fairways on multiple holes.

Oak Park is a great park style course that has some tough holes. Its a pretty area to walk around as well.

It's par 56 from either set of tees. I couldn't bank the number of birdies I needed to offset my bad holes. The score was 62, with 2 birds, 2 bogies and 3 double bogies.

I had played Oak before, but it was some time ago. I am glad I got to play it again. Would definitely recommend.

Alternate tees/hole positions 9/10. The two sets of tees are red and blue, but rather than red being all longs or all shorts, each hole alternates which color tee is the longer one. This essentially gives 4 options for what to play (all short for beginners, all long for more advanced players, or all red/blue for intermediates). Several holes have really good alternate hole positions that completely change the feel of the hole, while others either have no alternate position or an alternate position that doesn't change much. This is mostly on the first few holes that are more crammed together, from hole 8 on the variety is very good.

Variety of distances 9/10. Overall the course is pretty long, especially after the first few holes, but there are enough short holes mixed in (7, 11, 13) that it doesn't just feel like you're bombing every hole. You can also mix up the tees you're playing from for more variety.

Course Maintenance 8/10. The grass is always manicured and the course is clean despite the lack of trash cans. There have been a couple of times where there are large limbs that have fallen after a storm and taken quite awhile to be cleaned up, and some tees near the river get covered with mud frequently.

Reasonably challenging all levels 8/10. Having multiple sets of tees really helps to make this course fun for everyone. The reason I didn't rate this even higher is the amount of water and length of even the short tees on the back 9 isn't very beginner friendly.

Comfort during the round 6/10. It could use more benches for sure, especially with how long it is, but there is a good amount of shade and the grass is always short. Even the woods are pretty trampled down due to the amount of traffic on the course. Water fountains and a bathroom partway through would be helpful as well.

Navigation between holes 2/10. As stated in other reviews, there is no course map present to help with navigation. It's also difficult to tell where pads are from much distance since there are no tee signs. Not only that, but there were formerly at least numbers painted on the tee pads that told you what hole you were on and showed which direction the hole went from the tee, but they have now faded to the point where most are indistinguishable.

Amount/use of elevation 3/10. For the most part the course is pretty flat, the elevation change that is present is mostly from the embankment along the river from holes 11-18. Holes 6, 7, and 16 are exceptions to this with a couple of rolling hills. 11-13 feel pretty stale since they all have the river on the left and the embankment sloping from right to left in the right half of the fairway.

Finding discs 3/10. There is a lot of potential to lose discs, especially from hole 11 on with either the river on the left (11-13, 15, 17, 18 short) or a pond that is very much in play (16, 18 long, and to a lesser extent 5 long).

Navigation on holes themselves 4/10. Once you are on the tee the navigation is a little better, but the lack of tee signs means there isn't a map showing you where to go. Most of the baskets can be seen from the tee which makes it easy, but there are still several holes that can't be seen from at least one of the tees (1, 2, 5-7, 18) where a map and/or a marker showing which placement the basket is inwould be helpful.

Variety of shot paths 4/10. There are several holes that strongly favor a right to left shot, but almost none that favor left to right (I think hole 18 short is really the only one). Several of the straighter/more open holes give options to throw different shot paths, but this course is definitely RHBH/LHFH friendly.

This course receives the most play of any in Wichita, and can be very crowded in the evenings or on weekends. There are also a decent number of cars/walkers/joggers that you'll need to keep in mind as you play.

This is a solid course, pretty much tied with Herman Hill as my two favorite courses in Wichita. With the installation of a course map, detailed tee signs, and some benches or other amenities I would have it at a 4.

I'll be back fer shure! With the locals help; this was an amazing 9 holes (about 6 are flooded out). The ease of seeing your disc in the undergrowth and walking across manicured lawn with stone bridges, archways, and the river is wonderful. Bag it!

The locals! Shout out to Guy, Dan and Duck! I showed up in Wichita for work and was treated to a phenomenal guided round at a very nice course. Beautiful grounds. Multiple tee and basket locations. Diverse shots. Clean.

No signage at all. Talk to a local, they're extremely friendly, maybe they'll let you tag along. Otherwise, it would be VERY difficult to find your way aound.

The local shop, Duck's Flying Discs, set me right up. I opened the door and he immediately came over, shook my hand and introduced himself. I found hole one no problem, played it, and came up on a couple locals having a 'safety meeting' who offered to let me play the round with them. One of the guys found a disc during play and he called the number on it right away. Gotta respect a dude that does that. Very thankful for them. I would have struggled to find my way around. Beautiful course. I'd love to go back.

- Good variety of lefty/righty, short/long. Mostly open shots.
- Concrete tee pads in good shape and level.
- Fairways are fairly open and there are multiple flight paths on a majority of holes.
- Park is well maintained and plays along the Arkansas River which makes for some really great scenery, but adds a bit of risk.

- No tee signs
- Course flows fairly well...however, there are quite a few instances where you have to back track to get to the next tee.
- There are a few instances where walkers may be at risk, so caution should be taken.
- No benches or trash receptacles.

- All in all I liked this course. I really enjoyed Holes 6, 16, and 18.
- The differences in the Blue and Red tees escapes me. Normally they are differentiated by distance but that didn't seem to be the case. I think they may have separated them by technicality instead. This was a bit confusing.

--You will not find a course in the Wichita area with a more beautiful setting. Huge old trees, the prettiest stretch of the Arkansas River in town, ponds, and rock formations all make this a very scenic course.
--Concrete tee pads and top notch baskets
--Multiple tees and multiple pin locations make this course a little different almost every time you play it. Playing from the short tees to short pins creates a lot of opportunity for ace runs and low scores. Play the long tees with long baskets and you will be doing really good to keep double and triple bogeys off your card.
--Quite a few holes where you can rip drives, but quite a few where you have to be very technical with your drive placement. Lots of low ceilings and out of bounds come into play making it very challenging.
--Somewhat protected from the brutal Kansas wind because of its location and tree cover.
--If all you have is a backhand, you better be able to throw a good anheiser shot. Same to be said if you only have a forehand. This course will make you shape shots both ways.

This is all to be taken with a grain of salt because it is a great course so this is next level stuff:
--No signage, which means no distances or directions to next tee pad. You have to print off a map if you want that information, and even then the map only includes distances to the original pin placements, which the baskets are not always in. First timers will probably struggle getting around.
--It seems like there have been several years gone by without doing a lot of tree trimming along shot paths. What used to be windows have shrunk or disappeared.
--Course is super busy, and some people like to play in groups of 6 or more. It can take over three hours to play a round.
--With the river and two ponds coming into play on about half of the holes, losing a disc is a real possibility.
--Active roads and bike paths run pretty close to hole layouts, so dealing with cars, joggers, bikers, etc is common. It is also a favorite place for people to take family photos, especially around hole 18 basket. Most of them don't even understand that they are obstructing a golf course, and certainly don't know how bad they could be injured with a disc thrown 300 feet. In my opinion the city should put up signs that prevent photo shoots in certain popular areas, or at least warn of the possible dangers.

In my opinion this is the best course in the Wichita area. It has a great layout with use of all different types of hazards, and forces you to play all different types of shots. The only draw backs are generally things that fall on the restrictions set forth by the city, which is what I believe holds this course back from getting to the level of a national championship caliber course. If you are a first time visitor: print out a map that is available online, be ready to share the park with non-disc golfers, be prepared to play a round that takes a little longer than normal, and enjoy the best that Wichita has to offer.

This course has multiple tees and pin placements and the grounds are well taken care of. There is a Kiosk next to hole 1 with all the area events and happenings.
Many holes have good lines that must be hit and there is a good mix of short, moderate, and longer length holes. Some baskets have wood chips around them to help with roll a way putts.
There is a decent amount of water threat on this course to keep you on your toes. The flow of the course is logical and the tee pads are plenty long enough allowing for a proper run up.
There are a few holes where you can't see the pin from the tee and a few holes have protected baskets.
Several holes where you can air a driver out and a few chances to RUN THE CHAINS as well.
This course gets a lot of play, because its that good.
The new Mach X baskets are super nice and do an excellent job of catching putts.
This course plays along the river which adds to the mystique of this course.
The pins get moved periodically so it keeps things from getting stale.
Elevated pad on hole 18 makes for a great finishing hole.
Favorite holes here: 1, 7, 12, 16, and 18.

Plays next to and by some park roads, mainly affecting holes 7-10 and 14-16. Please be careful of your surroundings and look before you throw. With this in mind the course gets used for wedding photos, family pictures, etc(especially in the fall months) so be respectful and don't throw on the other park users. Some of the interior holes like 8-14 play around/next to sidewalks so again pay attention before you throw.
No signage so the first time user or the out of towner might take exception, however the hole numbers are marked on the tee pads so that helps a bit.
Some of the holes next to the river might be tough to play when the river is out of its banks.

Depending on which set of tees you play from and where the pins are set this course will challenge players of all levels and abilities. Obviously the course will play a lot tougher from the long tees to the long pins, but there are good lines to be hit from both sets of tees. There is a good mix of open and wooded holes and you will need to work on both distance and accuracy here to score well. There are several holes where risk/reward shots come into play. Will you take the chance at skipping one in on say holes 11 and 12, or will you play it safe and lay up?
Will you go for it on hole 18 and make it across the pond and pick up a stroke or two?
Whatever your approach this is an excellent course that is a must play if you are in the Wichita area. As others have mentioned this course does get crowded but if you are patient its worth the wait. This is by far my favorite course in Wichita.

This is a almost perfect course. the first 5 holes play so that if you only want to practice for 30 minutes you can make a few rounds around the first 5 holes and be able to thrown almost every shot that you will throw.

It's hard to think of any. If I had to be very picky then I would say that there aren't any hole descriptions at every hole. They could also put hole lengths on the tee pads.

There is a great club that plays here every Wednesday at 6PM. This is a very active group and just check the air capital disk golf club website for all the info.

All of the holes now have at least two pin placements. Some (8,9,10,14,17) have three pin placements. All holes have two tee pads. The new pin placements have added length and challenge to some of the holes.

The course is quite busy on the weekend.

Great improvements...play when you are in the area.

Loved this course. Each hole was fun. I liked the series of holes along the river and how some of the more difficult holes had an optional tee box. I would recommend you play this course if you're in the area.

Oak park is a large park located near downtown Wichita. The Arkansas river comes into play on several holes, running along the left fairway of these holes. Lots of mature trees but not dense by any measure. A few holes have baskets placed just inside the woods, and a few holes have tee pads located just inside the woods.

The course plays long, regardless of which set of tees you use.

This course has a great signature hole on 18, shooting over a pond. I would say hole 6 long tee (not sure what color), is pretty cool, too. You throw over a (smaller) pond from a slightly elevated tee pad.

No real elevation here. A few tee shots have minor elevation, but the course is mostly flat.

Hole 1 has the only trash can on the course.
Hole 6 has a large tree trunk laying on the ground for seating. The rest of the course had no seating.
No water on the course, although convenience stores / fast food restaurants are nearby.

This course gets very crowded, since there are only two 18 hole courses within city limits. There are other great courses nearby, but this course sees the most traffic.

I found this weird, but hole 8 seems to be the only hole with two pin placements.

Risk / Reward - The risk here is going big to reach the pin, and risking OB in the river or street, or losing control of your drive and hitting a tree.

Fun Factor - This is a challenging and fun course. Although it's a fairly open park course, just shooting par is a real challenge, due to the wind and length of the course. My best was 5+.

Some L to R holes, and some R to L holes, but most holes are straight ahead with length being the real obstacle.

The course has a great mix of tight and open shots. The layout flows relatively well. Multiple pad locations are a great addition.

Water can claim discs if one is not careful. Geese were everywhere when I played.

A great, challenging course that is certainly the cream of the crop in Wichita

Nice well maintained course. I love it. Great use of woods and water. 2 sets of launch pads (Red & Blue) so the course doesn't get boring. Easy to follow, everything is marked well.

Certain times of the year you need to watch out for geese chit everywhere.

Maybe a sign for beginners on 18. "You might want to throw from the top of the hill or you WILL get wet.

This course includes a mix of wooded and open holes. A mix of trees near the tee and near the baskets make each hole a unique challenge. Both forehand and backhand players will find holes which cater to their strengths and pronounce their weaknesses. A number of water shots also challenge your ability to make accurate, long range throws.

The first few holes' fairways seem to run together, and I would imagine that the course could get dangerous as it becomes crowded. As a first-time player on the course, I had to find people to follow to learn my way around. This could be easily remedied, however, with improved signage, or your bringing along a course map. There are several holes in the middle of the round that become very easy to get into the river for a RHBH thrower. A challenge, but a seemingly unnecessary stretch of holes that feel the same.

A fantastic course to play. Definitely a must if you are in the area. The multitude of tees presents a challenge for all skill levels, and the stunning visuals around the course provide a very enjoyable round of golf.

I lost a disc on 18 in a large slimey pond

Dual TeePads allow for competitive golfers and beginners. The water holes are great (6,11,12,13,16,17,18). Hole 18 Blue pad awesome hole. The course is surrounded by Little arkansas river lots of birds. The wooded area is state bird reserve, so lots of birds. Course map is very helpful with navigation.

Tee signs would help but if you cant have them you cant have them. Hole 6 to 7 just follow the road.

Lots of local players good for the sport. Some say 8-10,14 are repitive but you still have to find a line and hold to it and short will have to be spot on.

This course had several amazing water holes (6, 11 and 18) with others playing very close to water. 18 is one of the coolest holes ive ever played. The disc golf section of the park was very secluded from excess park traffic. The local club seems active in the course and there were plenty of maps and scorecards available at the kiosk. The course traffic was minimal considering how beautiful the location is as well as its respectable DGCR rating.

The course had two concrete tee pads for each hole which is really nice when playing with players of varying skill and could almost be considered two courses.

The only bad thing is that with the exception of these water shots, the rest of the course seemed repetitive. almost every hole was in an open field with 3-5 trees in or around the fairway.

1) There is a nice mix of open and wooded on this course. There is a decent amount of tree density variation to really provide an interesting feel to this course. There are a few holes that are mostly open, there are some holes with spotty mature trees, and then there are some holes with dense woods surrounding either the tee or the green area. The only thing it is missing is a hole that is entirely in the woods but the variation is good and all in all this is a balanced course.

2) Water comes into play on a handful of holes here. There are a couple holes where you throw along the water, a few where you throw over water of some sort, and then there is #18 . . . which is by far one of the coolest finishing holes I have ever seen. It is landscaping like this that you just don't see on disc golf courses. While I am sure this was landscaped before the disc golf came along, it still is a thing of beauty to play this hole to finish your round.

3) Dual concrete tees are appreciated with the tee color painted in the front left corner of each tee-pad. I only figured it out after I played a few holes that the color coded tees allow for two setups, but you can also play all forward or all back tees allowing for a total of 4 course setups. I wish I would have understood this and I would have played all long tees instead of sticking to the blue tee setup because it would have made for a more consistent round.

4) Kiosk is at the first tee which allows for a place to post announcements and other information.

5) Mach baskets with # plate on this courses. I always appreciate it when the # plate faces the tee. Basket rungs are painted with red and blue to indicate where the next tee is.

6) Practice basket is available for use near the parking area.

7) This course is obviously a championship level course. There is length, water, trees, some challenging basket area. Some holes have multiple layers of challenge incorporated together.

8) Any course with a hole names "Devil's Hallway" is a hit in my book and it throws that at you on the second hole.

9) 18 is clearly the best finishing hole I have ever seen. It isn't the longest, it isn't the hardest but it isn't often that you will find a hole like this with the landscaping like this on a disc golf course. This hole leaves you with the impression you just played one of the best courses in the world.

1) This course does not present itself as beginner friendly. There are forced water carries, lots of length, and some tough wooded holes and also some tricky basket locations. This is not a bad course because of this it just doesn't present itself as beginner friendly.

2) Turf seems to be worn out in spots around a lot of tees and some basket areas.

3) Posts would be really helpful in navigation and to help new players find the red or the blue tees. Of course this is even more helpful in winter when I played. They had just gotten some ice and snow the night before making finding those flat concrete tees very difficult due to some drifting.

4) Signs would be helpful on this course because often times baskets are tough to find.

5) This may be nitpicky but I sure would have liked to see an antire hole or two play through the woods. That would have made this course as balanced as I would have found.

6) There is a long confusing walk going from hole #6 to #7. There are paths going in and out of the woods which you might confuse you.

This course was obviously designed with the avid tourney players in mind. It is setup very well for tournament play and will challenge all levels of play. The balance is tremendous both in the obstacles presented and the challenges they throw at you. It also is well balanced in shot selection. There are a lot of throws needed on this course and you need to be a little inventive in spots. All in all I wish I didn't have my only round on this course the day after freezing rain and snow. This is so much better course than I got to see because I was worried about my footing while teeing off and even on fairway shots. I would have given this course a 3.5, but I know had I gotten to play it under ideal conditions I would be rating this course higher, so I am going to just up my rating based on the overall feeling I got from the course. I am giving it a 4 which may even be a little soft. It is possible that this course could be somewhere between 4.25 and 4.5. There simply are not many week spots on the course. Sure the middle of the course gets a little boring by being mostly open, but there is a good variety of shots on these holes so I can't really call it a weak spot. All in all i was impressed with this Wichita Kansas course. It certainly was better than I expected to find here.

Challenging, many wooded areas. The variation of terrain was also pretty decent. Large and spread out, very fun course to play on. There is also a second tee pad for every regular tee, so if you don't like were the tee pad is you can choose the alternate tee pad that is generally closer to the basket, making it easier for beginners.

Many trees and a higher risk of the disc getting stuck in the trees. When I was there playing on the course, it really rained in Wichita a few days before and being near a river some of the course was flooded. One of the holes was pretty much in ankle deep water. Also the course is near a side street and a trail, so you need to be careful of walkers, bikers, and approaching traffic. Two of the holes have a pond you have to clear to get to the basket. I know they are on hole 18 and the other one I can't remember right off hand I think it's hole 5 or 6. On the first water hazard I was able to clear it and it was my first time playing. I didn't try on hole 18 because of the size of the pond. In case you don't want to try the water I believe the alternate tee pads are out of the direction of the water hazards. If you lose your disc in the water they are retrievable, but it isn't easy. One of the water hazards looked fairly deep and the one on hole 18 was filled with algae so unless you don't mind getting dirty and smelling bad I would recommend clearing the pond or going on the alternate tee pad.

Great course, first course I played disc golf on. The way the course was set played a part of me getting into disc golf. This is a course I would definitely recommend playing on.
