A fun day in the sun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

What a well kept park. This is an open course playing essentially in a drainage gully adding lots of thought behind your throws. I played this course of a very windy day and using my heaviest discs with little glide I was able to play this course well. I did find if you have any errant shots the terrain is very unforgiving. I think the worst was hole 6, if you overshot that by a foot your disc could go for days down a steep embankment. I likes the rubber pads very pleasant to throw from. I also enjoyed the signs at every hole. There was a portable toilet by hole 5 and the volleyball courts, this was clean and appeared services regularly.

Cons:

There is a drainage area that has some tall grass int he middle of the course, most miss thrown discs do end up in here. Many holes throw across one another and we found that groups held each other up hole to hole waiting on the other players to leave their fairway. There is some picnic benches along the course way towards hole 4 and if people where sitting there it would be an unplayable hole. Finding hole one was actually quiet difficult as it is at the top of a dead end road. There were other roads turning around the park and none of these connect to the parking by hole 1. Make sure to take locust and turn right on 8th and follow that to hole 1.

Other Thoughts:

Really well made course. They used the terrain they where given to make the best and most fun shots possible. Overall a fun course and I will definitely play it again.

Pros:

This is a great 9 hole course. This course is on 5 acres with and rolling hills and trees scattered through out the course. The course is very well kept with mowed fairways and brush cleared out. All the holes haves very nice tee pads and signs. Baskets are easy to spot. There is a seasonal creek that throws a bit of a challenge in. This course showed me couple of parts of my games i need to work on. This is a great warm up course for whistlers if you're in town.

Cons:

There are no bathrooms which kinda sucks. Some of the fairways were crossing over each other but there was no other golfers which didn't make it a problem. From what i hear from the locals the course is always windy which can sometimes be irritating. There is a par 2 and a par 4. In my opinion they should both be par 3s. We were also harassed by some locals but I'm sure that was a one time thing.

Other Thoughts:

Shout out to Yoseman and the commissioner for helping design the course and fundraise.

Pros:

Keeping it real... I was one of the designers and constructors of this course, so I'm sure I am biased. However, the pros to this course, in my opinion, are;
Baskets 1 and 2 - The challenge of navigating the trees.
Basket 3 - Beautiful drop over the creek. A possible Ace here.
Basket 4 - Get to stretch your legs here and test your distance ability.
Basket 5 - Distance is decieving because of the rise, but it's a nice throw along the Volleyball court, then under the huge tree.
Basket 6 - If you go for the Ace, you could pay the price by chasing your disc down the embankment. Keep to the right and watch the wind on this one.
Basket 7 - It's a beautiful view and a great throw across the ravine. This is another one that appears closer than it is.
Basket 8 - This is another nice shot back across the creek. A good birdie contender.
Basket 9 - Closes out this 9-Basket course with another beautiful view and great throw across the creek to bring you back to where you started.
Oakland's Public Works department does a great job of maintaining this course with a very limited budget. The Parks Commission provides a Port-a-Potty from May thru October.

Cons:

Although there was no other way to get a 9 Basket course on 5 acres, I recognize that the crossover play could be a challenge on a busy day.

Other Thoughts:

Although I am not with the Oakland Parks Commission anymore, I am certain that they would love to hear any constructive criticism and act on it as well. You can email them at [email protected]
