Five Holes, Dying 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 15, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

This was once the world's best 5-hole course. It has spacious concrete tees, two per hole, with good baskets. The design is great, featuring two moderately long par-3s working open to closed then vice-versa, a really cool par-4 traveling into the woods, and then a couple of technical par-3s to close it out. Any of these holes would be comfortable on 3.5-4.0 rated course. There are even bathrooms on site, for what that's worth.

Cons:

Keyword in the above paragraph is "once". Pittard is now in a state of severe disrepair. (1), (2), and (5) are the only playable holes, as the other baskets are missing. Overgrowth is severe, which doesn't affect gameplay too badly on those holes but would make (3) and (4) unreasonable even if they did have baskets. The overgrowth also makes navigation miserable, as you have to walk through brambles to get to the tees in the woods. Drainage was also a huge issue when I played, with large swaths of the woods a muddy wasteland (and that wasn't the case at the other two courses I played that day).

Also, even if it were pristine, Pittard is very small. Five holes is just enough to whet the appetite, and it would take 4 times through to make a normal course length.

Other Thoughts:

I wish Pittard would get some love, as it has five really good holes. Maybe I wish even more, though, that these 5 holes could be transported elsewhere to start a 4.0 course. Oh well. As is, I wouldn't recommend visiting unless you're a local, and if you're dedicated to walking the whole course as an avid bagger, bring shoes for mud and clothes for brambles.

Pittard Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Has concrete tee pads for both tees

Has tee signs

Mix of open and wooded fairways

Most holes have changes in elevations

Course flows pretty well

Had whole course to myself on a Saturday afternoon

Free parking but can be limited depending at what time you play

Restrooms at community center across the street

Cons:

Has only 5 holes (but a total of 10 holes if you play both tees)

Course could use more maintenance in the wooded areas especially holes #4 & #5 but well-maintained for most of the course

Tee sign for hole #2 is the anomaly where it shows the distance for the short tee unlike the others

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice challenging course that I played as a warm-up before playing at another park nearby for the first time. Given the small size of the course, the course has some quality tee pads that you won't find at some parks. There's not enough land here to make 9 holes - maybe if they were shorter but the 5 holes are fairly challenging for the casual player. So it seems the course designer chose quality over quantity in designing the course here. The course doesn't seem to get much playing time as I had to sweep the tee pads on a few of them. Also the course seems to be lacking in maintenance near #4 and #5 holes where there is undergrowth that is knee high in certain areas. Being that this area is in a drought at this time of year, I did not come across any muddy areas but I do see the potential for drainage issues at the bottom of the slope where almost all the holes are affected one way or the other. Honestly, this course is not worth the drive to play unless your playing Sandy Creek Park nearby.

Five good holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 1, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

* All five holes are challenging and would not seem out of place on a 3.5/4 star course. I think most people are going to see "only five baskets" and think it's a pitch and putt but each of these holes will test your skills. I find #2 from the longs to be especially difficult to par. Average length from the whites is 290 feet, blues is 365, so these are going to require drive/approach/putt for mere mortals.
* Dual teepads on all holes gives you different looks.
* Really nice teepads - I honestly think these might be the most spacious ones I've ever played on.
* I was a bit skeptical on whether or not this would get any use; I thought maybe it was too short for the serious disc golfer and a little advanced for the first-timers. But there's been at least one other person playing each time I've been out there, so maybe there is an audience for short courses.

Cons:

* The main con of this place is poor drainage. The course is on a gentle slope, meaning portions of holes 1,3,4 & 5 are in areas prone to muddiness. Which is bad... but my major objection is the water looks ridiculously toxic. Creepy color, weird oily film on top.... pretty sure drinking that water would either kill you instantly... or perhaps give you the ability to throw an Aviar 500 feet?!?
* Only enough land for five holes. Feels a little wrong to count it as a course even. More like a nice practice area/driving range. But dual pads with decent variety brings you up to ten, and I think with a little creativity you might be able to add some safari holes too.

Other Thoughts:

With only five holes, I don't think anybody should drive out of their way to play this, but it's a fairly nice diversion for us local disc golfers.
