Why bother? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course (kinda) in a small park in Woodstock, IL.

Nice DGA baskets, and all mounted well. Number plates help with navigation. One pin position per hole..I think. Maybe. Who knows.

Natural tees, with two red pavers to signify. It appears this course rarely gets used, so the teeing areas are all in good shape and flat. One tee per hole.

Some decent elevation in play. Hole 1 is cool, and uses the sparse trees well.

A decent amount of distance on several holes, which lets you grip and rip a little bit.

Cons:

The woods that house many of the holes (4, 5, 6, 8, 9) are completely overgrown. Maybe they're playable in early spring, but in August, they're nearly impassable. We certainly weren't going to lose our frisbees to play them.

It wasn't wet while we were here, but it's pretty easy to see that the big bowl would retain plenty of water.

No signs, just some metal posts that used to have signs attached to them. Once you find hole 1, though, the navigation is pretty simple, as it just runs a circle around the park.

Other Thoughts:

This is a bummer of a course. It could be decent, but somebody would have to actually care about it. Basically, this is a waste of good baskets, and somebody should get their throwing hand slapped with a ruler as a result.

Basically, don't bother unless your family lives next door. Even then, you may want to find something else to do that day.

New course in area! Oh, darn, it is horrible... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hmmm,
Uhhhh,
Let's see...
First hole is down hill? That was kind of neat.
I am serious when I say I can't think of any positives but that one.

Cons:

Center of course is water retention area
Can't mow because that area is too wet
Holes are bland
Holes too near Roads
Holes too near houses
Wooded holes have no paths
All signs have been stolen
No tee pads
No course map
People playing soccer in the middle of the field.
Looking for discs becomes a habit.
No one taking care of course.
No signs signaling disc golf area.

Other Thoughts:

I'd like to start this review out by saying I was very excited to hear of a new course in the area. I will also say I always give the benefit of the doubt when reviewing and think many can be too quick to rate courses poorly.

With that being said, I didn't give a zero stars as I suppose a course could be worse. But the 1 stars I gave is very generous indeed.
So, I started out in the parking lot, having no idea which way to go. I walked up towards hole one, but there was no sign, and I ventured towards hole 8. Looking forward, I couldn't understand where hole 8 was, but hole 9 was close. The only reason I knew it was hole 8 was that it was pretty much the only hole with a sign. I ventured back up the hill towards a pole by the road north of the parking lot and found hole 1!! At the time, it was just a guess that it was hole one.

So, let's do a hole by hole breakdown.

Hole 1: If you park in the right parking lot (there are 2 and you should park in the East lot with the playground but there are no signs to let you know you are in a disc golfing area), you walk North up the hill and you will find a metal pole. There won't be any sign, or a teepad, but there will be two brick stepping stones in the ground to mark that you are in the right spot. This was the only hole worth throwing (I thought) until I threw. I faded left. There is a ridge that runs above the water retention field that runs along the right side of the course. Think huge field to your left and a 10 foot hill running along the edge of it. If you are RhBh or LhFh, and fade left, you will go into an unmowed, mucky mess that is down in the field. I was soaked and muddy from the knees down, looking for my disc for 15 minutes, after my first throw. And, by looking at it from afar, you would never guess you could lose a disc at this point. If you are RhFh or LhBh, you need to be aware that you can throw into people's yards. The positive is that it is downhill and the hole sits under a very pretty oak tree. That is my only positive for this course.

Hole 2: Still running along that ridge, don't fade left, or you will get wet. Fade right, you will be in someone's yard or hit a house. This hole is bland, straight, and nothing special.

Hole 3: To your left, there is a nature/wetlands looking area with very tall grass. It is at the end of the ridge and the end of the field near the second parking lot. Good luck if you go in there. Wet and very tall grass. To your right, more houses. This hole continues along the same line as the first two holes, east to west along the "ridge" that borders the retention field.

Hole 4: Good luck not landing in someone's yard or not landing on the street. This hole goes from the North side of the retention field, across the second parking lot, and you end on the south side of the field up towards the road.

Hole 5: So, at this point, you are heading back across the field toward where you parked. You get to hole 5 and have to throw south into the "woods." Not much of a woods. These woods are not mowed in anyway. There are no paths. You can't see the hole and think that hole 6 is the basket. It isn't. Hole 5 is deeper in the "woods" but right up near a road. It is to the right of hole 6. If you overshoot the hole, again, backyard or street. Have fun finding your discs!! I am being sarcastic. The overgrowth is a pain.

Hole 6: Throwing back out of the "woods" and back towards the retention field. Also not manicured in anyway. More tall grass and looking for discs. Hole 6 basket is currently just sitting in some overgrowth. Does anyone take care of this course?

Hole 7: Now you are in the retention field, hugging it along some very tall prairie grass to your right, heading back towards your car. It is wet to the right and hard to find discs. To your left is the field, which is, at least at this time, a mucky mess. The field was designed to drain water from the surrounding neighborhood, so not really sure why anyone thought it would be a good place for a park.

Hole 8: Huh? Where is it? I didn't bother to find out. Funny, because it was nearly the only hole with a sign. I think it was towards some houses. Basket 9 is close and to the left of the "teepad" for 8. So I threw for that and left.

Hole 9: Lost interest, was soaked, left, never to return.

Again, I am very hesitant to ever give bad reviews but this course disappointed me very much. I never get the feeling that I am sick of walking and bored at a course. I got that feeling here. I just wanted to get on a dry pair of shoes.
