Solid course for a small town drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are some shot varieties available. Righty backhand, righty forehand, a couple of tunnel shots, hyzers, and flex lines.

The layout uses some of the features of the park fairly well. There's a creek that comes into play on 4-5 of the holes, and they used the sparse trees to create some tricky lines (5, 6, and 8).

I would say there are some shots for different levels of ability. The longest hole is around 330' and the shortest is around 215'. With the creek and trees on some holes, it's a good mix of open shots and shots with lines to hit. Beginners can get threes or fours, intermediate players can grabs some twos but may run into some trouble, and advanced players should score pretty well but still have to throw some good shots.

Tee signs are ok and tee pads are nice and flat. Not the longest tees, but you don't really need a super long run-up for most of the holes, so no big deal there.

Cons:

All of the pars on this one should be par 3's. They're probably marked that way since lot of the people that probably play it are beginners or don't have a lot of experience playing. Both on DGCR and UDisc, there are no par 3's listed. The distances are short enough and while there are some obstacles and OB, there isn't enough to really warrant par 4's and 5's.

I like the idea of Hole 8 using the gap in the tree line, but the angle and shot it requires is pretty tough from where the tee pad is located. Even though it's short, you can't see the basket from the tee because of the angle. For a righty, to make the gap, you have to put something on anhyzer and not have it fade out, or throw a hyzer-flip that stays low (there's a low ceiling as well) and keeps moving right. If they moved the tee pad back and to the left, it makes the hole a little more straight forward and can help players learn to throw straight.

The tee pad for Hole 3 is right in the middle of Hole 2's fairway and/or circle two. What they could do is move it back to the west about 80-100 feet or move it across the creek to the east so that it would be out of the way.
Also, the walk between hole 3's tee and the basket makes you decided whether to walk back almost all the way to 2's pad to cross the creek, or try and cross the creek directly, which is semi-steep and has plenty of tall grass/weeds.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is a good course that a lot of different players could find enjoyment out of. There was some more open land to the east of holes 4 and 5 that they could use to add some more holes if they wanted to, but for what land they did use, they did a good job.

Signature Hole(s)- Hole 8's gap looks cool and you'll be happy if you hit it. Hole 2 has the creek on the left of the whole fairway and then curves behind the basket, so distance control off of the tee or upshot is pretty important. Hole 4's basket sits on top of a ridge so parking it is pretty tricky, but makes for a cool look.

I'm giving the course a 3.0 (good). There aren't a lot of exciting shots, but the design and distances makes it a solid course for a good amount of players. Beginners can play using the given pars, but intermediate players and above should play them as par 3's.

Nice little course off the beaten path 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 1, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course for short game or players who are new to the sport.
Well taken care of park; Grass is short, concrete t-pads, clean grounds.
Most holes are well placed along the creek and trees.
Shouldn't have a problem finding parking unless the county fair is going on. Not a highly used course so most of the time you would have the course to yourself. 20-30 times I've ever played there, I've only shared the course with another group twice.
OH, and the creek is not very deep unless there's an occasional rain.

Cons:

#4 & #5 are wide open(WINDY!!!) shots. Can be a challenge or an annoyance, depending on how you look at it.
You'll have better luck finding your disc if it goes in the water of the creek vs the rough tall grass surrounding it. Just better if you stay out of there.
Still waiting on a tee pad replacement on hole #2.

Other Thoughts:

#2- Keep in mind that the 4-H building can really change wind patterns on breezy days.
#3,6&7- are going to be the tighter holes on the course.
I can't say much about the lack of trees because if memory serves me, right after this course was put in a tornado wiped out the park. I never played it before the twister but I remember this park having more older trees before the disc golf course. The trees are growing back. Just need to plant some out on #4 & #5
Nice place to change it up if I get tired of playing Lovewell Lake or Lost Creek

Don't forget to see the dinosaur on #9! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

#1-2 are largely open with little elevation changes. Fairly easy to birdie here.
#3 is the most interesting shot on the course from the tee. Keep it flying straight over the creek and fade left past the trees, which should set up a close 2nd shot.
#7-8 play near the crreek with #8 using the woods for a nice tunnel shot.
#9 is the most scenic hole. A gazebo, windmill, and willow tree protect the right, thereby giving a tight fairway next to the creek.

Cons:

#4-5 are open but not very creative in layout. 4 brings you out and 5 brings you back towards the course. Lack of obstacles makes these holes easy to birdie.
#6 is by far the most challenging and frustrating on the course. The creek to the left is OB, a long row of trees directly in front of tee, plus a road to the right that is often filled with cars visiting the park's playground. Either throw short and hope for the best, or throw wide hoping the same.

Other Thoughts:

Rattlesnake Run is by far the best course I have visited in Nebraska. Its a rare gem to find out in the country and saved me from boredom this summer while visiting family on the farm. The course could use updated basket locations to make things interesting but its hard to see how the park's limited space could be put to better use.
