Quick Casual 9; Good Practice Area 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nine new baskets placed around the edges of a nicely-landscaped, small county park

+ Clean park, new baskets, excellent signage

+ There are some reasonably long holes for a small park: Hole #1- #3 are around 300', and #9 is over 400'

+ The road, walking paths and park structures all play as OB - giving an otherwise mostly-open layout some challenge. This is especially true on the first few holes where the fairway is on a grade about 5' higher than the road all along the left side. Anything thrown nose-up is gonna fade into the road (this is said with experience....)

+ The "highlight" hole for me was #8 - it's only 277', but the basket sits on a mound, framed by trees, with a shallow gully running across the fairway just in front of the green. It's the prettiest and best "golf hole" of the nine

+ Hole #9 uses the limitations of the multi-use park to its advantage. It's a 417' par 3 curving left along a ball field fence marking OB. You're throwing from an elevated tee, so you really have to throw carefully if you want the most direct route to the basket. The basket is protected by OB on both sides (ball field on once side, tennis courts on the other) - so your upshot is also requires careful placement

Cons:

- No tees (although most teeing areas are flat and grass)

- Hole #4 basket is hidden behind trees in front of a park structure - it is NOT the visible basket on top of the hill just off to the right

- Several of the short holes (#4, #7) feel like they've been "stuck in" to make the nine hole layout. At best, they're holes to practice your upshots

- Once you get over the novelty of how the course was fit in to an existing park, the holes get pretty dull

- I played on a weekday morning in March, so there was very little park traffic other than a few walkers. The park includes athletic facilities and is is adjacent to a middle school, so I'm guessing a busy day in the park will really interfere with the flow of play

Other Thoughts:

~ This is a nice park, featuring a clean, short, fun and quick-to-play layout. It's worth a casual play. If you live nearby, it could be a good place to practice - and the big open field would be great for practicing the longest stuff you have

~ For fans of "Breaking Bad", the location of the infamous "Los Pollos Hermanos" restaurant is only a third of a mile down Isleta Blvd. Look for "Twisters" on the right, and stop in to view to "Breaking Bad" themed furnishings
