A Church For Real Life! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The River City Community Church DGC in Selma, TX welcomes players to come and play it's course. Park by the stalls of the neighboring vetrinarian hospital where you'll probably see some horses caged up.

The course starts down the hill to the left here. There are small yellow posts standing 6" high with the hole number on top. There is also a front board painted yellow which reads River City Community Church. These will prove extremely difficult to locate in the following holes. Hole # 1 is a 175' sharp anhyzer to a blind basket. The baskets are, maybe Discatchers with the yellow band, but instead of saying Discatcher, it says River City Community Church on one side and A Church For Real Life on the other side.
The pads are natural. You just throw behind the little yellow board. # 2's pad was difficult to find but I finally located it. The basket is just 138' ahead. # 3 is 410'. I never found the sign or board, did found the basket and it has the number on it as well.
The # 4 basket is tucked deep back into the jungle. I found the # 5 basket but never spotted the pad. # 6 was the long 410' hole going to the basket near the entry road. I never located that pad either.
Now you cross over the entry road and play the more open holes. # 7 is 240' with a couple of large trees in the path providing challenge. # 8 is a 300 footer playing up to the building ahead. And then # 9 plays a slight downhill, 436' to the basket next to the entry road. Cross the road again to get to the # 10 tee pad. It give you two options around a large tree, neither of which is that easy. The basket is close to where your car is parked.

Cons:

Although the fairways are mowed in the first five jungle holes, the tee box areas are terribly overgrown making navigation frustrating and time consuming. This is such a major flaw in course right now. It pretty much spoils the experience.

Other Thoughts:

If the earlier part of the course was cleaned up, this would be so much more enjoyable. The design is really well done for the audience they were targeting, that is, the very casual, occasional player.

Although for me, putting at baskets which read, "A Church For Real Life" is a little like being ministered to and totally threw off my already mediocre putting game. I'm better when the baskets are plastered with stickers for Innova or Beer ads or even autographed by clowns who were proud of their 158 foot ACES!
