A decent little wooded 9 hole 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The Calgary area is lacking in densely wooded courses, and this is one of those. The course design is quite good, with a variety of lines to hit and lengths of throw. That's the strength of this little 9 hole.

A good place for amateur players to hone their accuracy. There's a memorable long tunnel shot here, hole 4, that makes my list of top 9 holes in the Calgary area. Good enough baskets.

Cons:

It's only 9 holes, so if you're not already in Okotoks for some reason, it's not really going to be worth coming in from Calgary. There's a lot of brush and long grass on the course; I don't think you'll lose a disc here with normal play, but you'll probably spend some time searching for discs.

While it's a good tight wooded course, it's also fairly easy for players who can hit gap reliably because the more technical holes are all very short and can be reached with standing throws. The longer the hole, the wider the fairway, with 1 good exception.

The tee pads are gravel within (very) elevated frames, which is a little awkward and maybe even dangerous if you're trying to add some power with a run up. That's required on at least 2 of the holes, and so it leaves you cursing the tee pads in that situation.

Other Thoughts:

I liked it enough to come back maybe once every year or two, it reminds me of B.C. style disc golf. I really wish it were 18 holes to make the trip more worthwhile, but the local crew here did a really good job with the course design and should be commended on that.

Definitely worth a trip out for Calgarians at least once to cycle through it 3-4 times and try some hole types that aren't commonly available in the city..
