Short, Family Course In A Large Sprawling Park! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Schifferdecker Park Disc Golf Course advertises itself as a Family-Youth experience. I didn't think I could fake the youth part but I do have a family in case any government official checks. This is a quite a large park with lots and lots of space. It seems funny to build this little 6-hole course here.

The course is definitely beginner/family friendly. Only one hole is over 200' (# 3 which is 240' playing towards the hockey rink). The other five holes are in the 150-175' length. There are no tee pads here, you just play tee sign to basket. The signs, which state 'Family/Youth Disc Golf Course" are basic but work well enough here. The baskets are Monkey Trap except for # 2 which appears to be of some homemade variety.

Other than their short distances, there isn't much in the way of obstacles here. I did like # 4 because it has kind of cool crater behind it which could come into play. As a designer, I would have figured out a way to incorporate the crater into my design.

Cons:

The flow is a little strange. You play # 5 which is 177' out and then have to walk back to the # 6 sign. I just threw # 5 and # 6 and then picked up both discs on my way to my car.

Only 6 holes.

Little in the way of challenge or creativity.

No pads.

Other Thoughts:

The way I see things here, you have a fairly large park and you insert a tiny 6-hole course in one small part of it. If you can't create a nicely flowing little course in this space, then you are not a threat to John Houck as a course designer.

With that being said, Schifferdecker is probably a decent little beginner course. It's probably entertaining enough just to see your kids try and say "Schifferdecker Disc Golf Course."
