Ball golf course fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 8, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-All 18 baskets are in good shape.
-The ball golf course is very well maintained. The rough is plush, and the actual fairways will get you maximum roller distance. Makes for a fun place to huck some discs. And let's be real - this is Utah. Being able to play 18 holes on perfectly manicured grass is a rarity around here.
-The layout does a surprisingly good job of limiting ball golfer/disc golfer conflict. Sure, there are some holes where you're throwing straight down the ball golf fairway and may need to wait for them to mosey their carts along. But most disc golf holes are either playing on the periphery of a ball golf hole or throwing across it. Smart design, and makes the round play faster by limiting the amount of time waiting on ball golfers.
-Playing on a ball golf course has its perks. Clean restrooms on sight, plus a patio to grab snacks and a drink after the round.

Cons:

-There are no tee pads. I'm not sure if the course plans to add them eventually, but right now you just tee off from an area marked by small flags. And unfortunately, some of those flags are missing.
-Similar story for the tee signs. While the signs that are present are informative (distance, par, and photo of line to the basket), they are just flimsy yard signs. And many of those signs are now missing. A few holes had lost their tee pad marker flags and their sign, meaning the area to tee off was completely unmarked.
-Course navigation is impossible without uDisc. That is not hyperbole, it truly is impossible. The flow is not logical, but that is because the designer clearly prioritized reducing ball golf/disc golf interaction and maximizing the number of challenging shots over the course flow. Not a bad decision, but that combined with the missing tee signs and pad markers makes it impossible to play the course layout unless you have the uDisc app. **DOWNLOAD THE UDISC APP BEFORE TRYING TO PLAY THIS COURSE**
-$7 is a bit steep for a round here. I would expect the course to have concrete pads and permanent signs at that price point. But perhaps the owners are waiting to see how much cash flow disc golf brings in before they start making too many permanent investments.

Other Thoughts:

-The main challenge from this course is length, which will be considered a positive by some players and a negative by others. There are only five holes shorter than 330', and only one shorter than 300'. Big arms will have fun here. Someone at my arm speed will find this less enjoyable because throwing driver, approach, tap in starts to feel like Groundhog's Day after a while.
-Playing on a ball golf course "is what it is." You're just not going to get a lot of tight lines or memorable holes. But the tradeoff is that the grounds are impeccably maintained and you have amenities on sight. This is a fun place to play for a change of pace but not somewhere I'd want to (or could afford to) play every day.
-There is another 18 hole disc golf course on site. So in theory you could play 18 in the morning, grab a lunch at the clubhouse, and play the other 18 in the afternoon.
