Schöningen DGC is located in a beautiful little park (including carp ponds and a water fountain) next to a castle originating back to 1350.
As such, it's only a minute from downtown Schöningen with it's ice cream parlor and a couple good pizza and gyros places. Public toilets are available at the entrance of the park (or at the castle bistro) as is ample parking (either at the castle or on the supermarket parking lot behind #10).
The discgolf course itself is cut in half. Holes # 1, 2, 8, 9, 10 are in the more open section of the park with a little elevation changes, the ponds and some smaller trees. After #2 you cross over a wooden bridge and get into the second half with big Linden and Oak trees providing shade and shot shape necessity. Here you find a couple longer holes (including the sole par 4). After #7 you loop back over the bridge to finish the last 3 holes. The park looks clean and gets mowed regularly.
Hole #10 is something special: don't get fooled by the merely 128 ft, it's an absolute death putt from the tee as the basket is sitting right on the edge of a 15ft drop on 3 sides (spotter needed as there's a frequented path underneath). I got my first ace ever here, but if you miss, you are deep in bogey country and might end up in the lake.
