A Pheasant Surprise! 2+ years

Pros:
- free to play, ample parking
- dual tees per hole
- longer than average 9 hole course
- great mix of technical and open landscape, lots of limbless trees
- baskets in good condition
- conveniently located off the highway
- not much fairway overlap
- not much rough
- forgiving, fun for all skill levels
- it appears to be regularly landscaped

Cons:
- limited access, on middle school grounds
- natural tees
- I couldn't find dual tees for every hole
- no tee signs, just red (am) & blue (pro) painted stakes
- baskets not numbered
- no course amenities: benches trash cans, kiosk, ect
- flow was difficult to follow at first, hard to know where to start/end

Other Thoughts:
I was driving back to Fort Walton Beach, FL from Jackson, MS and happened to see baskets on the side of the highway! I was not expecting to find baskets, as this course was not listed on DGCR. At first glance, while daydream driving, I thought to myself that the property would make for an awesome course. To my astonishment, I thought I saw a basket, then another. It was like something from a dream. Was I hallucinating? If so, I needed to pull over and take a break from driving. If not, I had to pull over and take a break from driving to throw it. Either way, I was going to pull over. What I found was a pretty darn good 9 holes.
Semmes Middles School is an above average school style dg course. The fairways consist of technical shot shaping and open holes. The tall, limbless trees and the lack of bushes made for a fun and forgiving round. Most holes had 2 sets of tees that offered variances in distance and slightly different angles to the baskets. Between red and blues, the course offered decent variety of shot shaping while in the woods. Blue tees required the use of more than just a pitch and putt bag set up.
Unfortunately, navigation wasn't seamless. Much of the course was unlabeled, and the grounds lacked the amenities players normally see on non school courses. No signs, map, or basket labeling. Still, there is a lot of potential with the landscape given, even though it was flat. I thoroughly enjoyed my round and would throw the course again if I found myself passing through.
After a little digging around the Internet I managed to find a map, bits of course information, then uploaded the course on DGCR. It's not a destination course be any means, but I enjoyed the opportunity to stretch my legs during my 5+ hour drive back home from Mississippi.
