Fun 9 hole course next to the coast drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Scenic course. All 9 holes are packed full of palm trees with brown anoles scurrying up and down their trunks. The pond in the middle of the course adds to the aesthetics.

+ Pretty good hole variety. There are left turns, right turns and straight shots. The course does lean on straight shots a bit much, but there is enough variety between those holes that it doesn't feel repetitive.

+ Often times there are multiple routes to a pin. For example, #1 can be approached with a wide right hand flick or a straight backhand. #4 I opted for a midrange backhand hyzer, but there's a gap for a low flick too.

+ Every blue tee save for #3 and #8 is placed in the shade. Very smart decision by the designer. Some white tees were shaded as well when the hole allowed.

+ #3's pin is a ~4' high sand mound. Not a drastic elevation change but it made the course feel more varied.

+ Extended poles on the top of baskets make finding the pin easy.

Cons:

- Despite being a brand new course, the baskets look a decade or two old. They were definitely brought in from another course.

- Not a very difficult course for more skilled players. The course is aimed more at 800-900 ranked players than 1,000+. It seems like a good fit for the area and the land, as is will cater to casual players looking to bag a round on vacation.

- While the designer did a fantastic job putting the tees in shade, the course otherwise offers little cover from the hot Florida sun. It's pretty wide open.

- The course seems to favor straight shots a bit much. There could be a little more variety in the lines. #1, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9 were all pretty straight lines. That said, there was good variety between them. Some feature pond or parking lot OB's, and distances range from 245' to 636' on these holes.

- There are two pins visible from 2's long tee. I have no idea what the extra basket is for.

Other Thoughts:

This course is one of the better nine hole courses I've played.

I wouldn't call it a destination course, but I would swing by if you are in the area.

If I played it again I think I'd do a putters only round from the whites, then throw the blues with my regular setup. It'd be pretty quick to get 18 holes in this way.

The community center building was closed when I played, but from the looks of it there would be air conditioned restrooms, water fountains, and possibly basketball courts or a gym.

There is a large shaded playground in the center of the park that was recently renovated with brand new equipment. There was also a fenced dog park, a small garden and a little library. It's a nice park to go to if you've got kids, as they can run around on the playground and remain visible from most the disc golf holes.

The designer did a good job with the land they had. It's a little flat, wide open and lacking in acreage for creating a gold level course, so making a solid 9 hole with two sets of tees catering to different skill levels was the right choice.

While I personally prefer more demanding courses, I think the challenge level is just right for what most disc golfers would be looking for.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a 9 hole course I've rated higher.
