Pros:
- Multiple Pins: I need to go ahead and make a disclaimer right off the bat. I'm reviewing this as a 9 hole course. It's easier for me to talk about the course this way. I struggled with how to rate this having played the former 18 hole setup. I think I would personally rate it higher as a high end 9 hole course with multiple basket options than an 18 hole course with 9 fairways becoming repetitive. That being said, the multiple pins are amazing for giving you options. You can mix and match as you go, pick one color for the day, or even play 18 by playing yellow and then orange. The yellows are easier pin locations while the orange pins provide more challenge; quite a bit on some holes.
- Beauty: There are essentially 3 creeks on this course ranging from very small, to average, to above average in width. This is probably my favorite aspect of this course. The two larger creeks are clear and flow over rocks while the smaller creek adds challenge. The larger creeks can come into play (depending on pin) on holes 1, 3, 7, 8, and 9. The smaller creek is in play on holes 2 and 6. This makes for only 2 holes with no chance of a water hazard.
- Baskets & Pads: There are a total of 18 Discatchers in decent shape on this course. Hole #2 has an elevated basket. Also, every hole features at least one concrete tee pad. I noticed an extra concrete tee pad on 3 out of the 9 holes but this course lacks the signage to indicate how best to factor these in.
- Amenities: This course features big benches spread out well on 6 of the 9 holes. There is also a practice basket and trash can near hole #1.
- Length: A few hole's long positions (4,5,6,8,9) allow a wide range of players to stretch out the arm for a bit of a challenge. This is especially true when the longer tee pads are used when applicable.
Cons:
- Signage: In my opinion, this is the biggest weakness of the course. First, there is currently no course map. After that, tee signage is lacking and random. Hole #1 has a pole with a #1 on it. Holes 2, 3, 5 had no signage at all as far as I noticed. Holes 4, 6, 8, 9 had signage if not worn with time. The signs that were present only described the numbers above and did not show the difference between the "two different holes." This is another reason I would consider this a 9 hole course. An overhaul of the signage would up my rating a half point for reasons listed above and for navigational issues listed below.
- Navigation: Due to the signage issues, this can become problematic for a first time player of the course. I found myself throwing the old #6 just figuring that it was another hole with no signage. Then I noticed that someone has sharpied "this is no longer a hole" on a previous tee marker.
- Traffic: Depending on which tee pad you use, you throw over a busy (at times) road on #9. There can also be park users in play on the walking paths at times and this course has been fairly busy any time I've played here.
Other Thoughts:
Not pros or cons:
- There is a new kiosk that has been constructed that looks great. However there is nothing on it. Hopefully this will be a course map soon which would help this course greatly.
