Better than the north course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 18, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets, tees, and signage
Good hole variety and elevation change

Cons:

Very far from the "front" 9

Other Thoughts:

This is better thought of as 2 separate 9 hole courses (although they label the "south" course starting with "hole 10")
The first part could probably be skipped. I'd rather play the back 9 twice

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 2, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- quick play easy access 9 hole
- newer baskets
- concrete tee pads
- decent variety of distances ranging from 150 to 350 feet
- decent amount of elevation change to give you so,ea uphill and downhill throws
- some good basket placements to make some of the putting green challenging

Cons:

- most of this course is still pretty open and boring
- no wow shots despite the elavation change
- its not really an ideal setup to have the two 9s so far apart from eachother, but its better than only having 1

Other Thoughts:

The more difficult of the two 9s for sure. Much more of an intermediate course than a beginner course.

South side slightly more interesting 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is the other course out here which is much like its Sister course, North but slightly more interesting and a little longer. Hole one is actually labeled "10" I'm guessing they were trying to say this was one course together but playing the first time around I thought maybe there were 18 holes on this side instead of just nine so look for that if you're playing the first time.

Just like the North course you have beautiful green grass and mostly short holes with the exception of the final three or four holes which are slightly longer but still pretty much wide open. The challenge on this course comes mostly from extra distance and the rolling hills of green grass on the first five or six holes.

Cons:

After playing the first fifteen holes of the two courses the lines start to get redundant and boring. There just aren't enough obstacles or variety of shot type to make this course very interesting.

Again with the multiple basket locations continued from the first course, they don't do much to change the course to be needed. The 'longs' on this course should be in all of the time and maybe the other pin locations should be from a different angle to change the course up in that fashion instead of just trying to change distance with the same tee shot.

Other Thoughts:

This course is an add on from the beginner course and does a pretty good job of letting beginners have some success without too much confidence; it lets them know that Disc Golf is fun but they have a lot of time, practice and patience left to go if they want to get pretty decent at this game. Courses like this aren't much of a challenge but are still fun for us that sometimes want to relax, break out the putter or Superclass disc and not take their game too seriously. I would recommend this course for baggers and anyone who wants some ace runs.

fun little park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

These back 9 are far better than the first set. These ones typically have longer shots. This park is pretty open feeling but a good variety of terrain. I would say if this park is within 20-25 minutes of where you live then it is worth a trip out. Good place for beginners to learn, definitely not a hard course. Easy to find discs and course has recently been cleared/opened up.

Cons:

play this with the first set of 9 and you will get more for your time.

Other Thoughts:

Early morning or sunset time are the best to play! Just mowed and cleared a bit so pretty hard to lose a disc here!

Kind of only a 9 hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice park grass, well maintained, the back 9 is more of a real course and that part is fun. That's about as much as can be said- this course is OK, not good.

Cons:

If the front 9 wasn't such a joke this course would be another story. They should all be par 2 they are so close together, you can't use a driver except on 1 or 2 holes.

Other Thoughts:

If you are a beginner, play the front 9. If you know how to play, don't waste your time on the front, just go straight to the back and play it as a 9 hole course.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is a little more challenging than the 'front 9'. More trees and more elevation changes. Beginners will want to warm up on the front 9 a couple of times before going to this one. Longer shots than it's 'sister' course. Beautiful grass for most of the course.

Cons:

If it has rained in the past couple of days, 3 of the last 4 holes are very muddy as it is undeveloped area.

Other Thoughts:

Just as nice as the 'front 9'. Pads are nice and signage is clear. Wouldn't change much at all for this course. If the last 4 holes were as green as the rest, this course would easily get a 4.

Slightly better than first half 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Like the first half of this course, it has great signage, great numbered baskets, nice concrete tees, and is very well maintained.
+This half of the course has a few more trees, more elevation, more length, and some other obstacles to force shots a little bit.
+The first half might be a good test to see if a beginner can handle this half. It isn't necesarily hard at all but it is a step up from the front 9 and complements it well
+Two basket locations which look to be significantly different in distance if not in the angle of approach to the basket.
+Still some ace runs here, especially on the shorter baskets
+Should be no lost disc issues here although it is a bigger possibility than the first half.
+Easy to find your way around this course. Very nice map created by the city.

Cons:

-This half of the course is still very easy.
-If the baskets are all in the shorts, it would be very similar to the first half of the course. I would advise them to always keep at least a few baskets in the long location if not all of them.
-It isn't located very near the first half. I'm glad that they are listed as separate courses on here but the numbering is weird on this half. You start on 10 if you drive but you find 12 first if you walk (or run).

Other Thoughts:

-This half of the course had some fun factor for me. There were ace runs and a few longer holes mixed in.
-This place is good for beginners and maybe lower int players on this half of the course.
-It is worth a stop to play once but I wouldn't play here often if I lived in the Denver area. There are better courses available.

Ready for more distance? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very nice park in a nice neiborhood. Nice baskets, tee signs and pads. A little longer than the front nine. A lot of the baskets are still reachable with mids, but beginners will get in some driver work. Only a few spots to loose discs, and it will take a really bad shot to find them. A few of the holes will require drivers for advanced players as well. Par will be a good test for beginners, intermediates should be under, advanced should be way under....

Cons:

Not really any cons....... Just, not the most challenging from a technical standpoint. Oh yah......the fact that it is about a mile from the front/north nine is ,kind of, a downer.

Other Thoughts:

This course is the perfect next step from the north/front nine.

Back 9 shenanigans 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Pads, signage, trash containers. Baskets in good shape with alternate positions.

Warm up on the short front, and bring Horne bacon from the back.

The course mascot is waiting at the picnic pavilion to meet up and throw with you.

Cons:

A little smelly, and some ungodly weeds in th gullies.

The walk between he first and the second course is long.

Other Thoughts:

Got invited to return a pond disc, and threw two rounds. Came out even and -1. As you throw this course,l you should se e your score gradually decrease. This is a good neighborhood course.

Hills and the Creek 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 20, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice concrete tee-pads
-Nice tee-signs that show the layout of the holes, the different pin positions, and give the distance of the hole.
-Brand new baskets that catch very well
-There is a great amount of elevation change on the course
-The course offers some uphill, downhill, and side-hill shots, which helps vary the course up a little bit.
-There is a creek that could come into play on 3 of the holes.
-Most of the park is well groomed and nice grass, though the last three holes do play through a slightly rougher area
-A couple pin positions add a little distance to the course (Hole 17 long is about 450 feet and the long position on hole 15 is about 360)
-Overall, the course is easy to navigate and it is easy to know which hole is the next one.

Cons:

-The course has very few obstacles on it (there are not very many trees in play and the main obstacles on this course is the creek and the elevation changes. Overall, this course is very wide open.
-The area near the creek can be overgrown, and if a disc is thrown near the creek it very well could go missing
-Like the Front 9 (or Spingvale North) most of the shots on this course are straight shots (it would be nice to have some holes that turn right or left).
-The pin positions only add a little bit of distance but don't really change up how the hole plays
-While a few pin positions add a little more distance, overall this course does not have very much distance on it.
-No benches or trashcans on the holes on this side of the park.
-None of the holes are very memorable
-A couple of the holes have a bit of a long walk between them
-This course can get crowded (when we were there there were a lot of groups of 5 or more playing the course.)

Other Thoughts:

This course provides a little more challenge than the Springvale North (or the front 9) but it has very few obstacles and none of the holes are very memorable or have much of a wow factor. After all, the course starts to feel a little repetitive. This course is a good stop if you are in the area (make sure to give this one a shot if play Springvale North as this one adds a little more challenge) but don't go out of your way to play it.

short and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

short holes for beginners, nice elevation change, the water on the corse should not be a problem for most. Fun for all levels. Easy to get birdies.

Cons:

it was super windy when I played and my putter actually got blown out of the cage.

Other Thoughts:

it plays very quickly, so if you have time you could play it a couple of times or if your crunched for time you can whip thru 9. Its nice to see that they are alternate pins as well.

The Odoriferous Outback 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 24, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

In comparison to its northern sister course, Springvale South, aka "the back nine", is a little bigger, a little better and a little stinkier (but more on that later). The brand new cement tee pads, detailed signage and baskets are in perfect condition. There are even small trash cans with lids affixed to some of the tee signs, which helps to keep the lush grass free of dog droppings and litter. This park is notably quieter and less-traveled than Springvale North because it is tucked back into a suburban neighborhood and the baskets are not visible from any major streets. This is an ideal place to bring a group of disc golf friends if you're all at different skill levels but still want to throw one or two quick rounds together.

Several of the holes here are 20 - 50 ft longer than those found at Springvale North, but this is still very much a beginner/learner/recreation course. There are a couple unique holes, but nothing worthy of the term "signature hole". Hole 12 plays from the edge of a small pond to a basket under some trees atop a steep grassy slope - one of the more creative holes. The last four holes are tucked back into a section of the park where the turf changes abruptly from manicured grass to high arid prairie with scrubby plants and prickly yuccas to dodge around. Between holes 16 and 17 is a marshy, muddy gully full of head-high cattails and low murky water. This mini-swamp is the first and only nature-made obstacle on the entire 18-hole course worth mentioning. The only other natural obstacles are small hills and a few trees.

Cons:

There's no ignoring it - at certain times Marshall Reservoir and the nearby ponds emit a truly staggering, nostril-filling sulfuric odor. It is especially pungent when the wind is calm - and that is coincidentally when most of the disc golfers I've ever met like to be out on a course. Traveling between the northern and southern courses is about a 10-15 minute endeavor by car or brisk walking. Something particularly disappointing I noticed upon my arrival for the first time is that hole #10 is NOT the closest hole to the northern companion course. Logistically this does not make sense. The first hole you come to is #12 down by the bridge, but hole 10 is further south along Locust St.

Other Thoughts:

Springvale South deserves credit where credit is due:
*It's a clean, upkept park
*It's an easy drop-by type of course in an area that was pretty far from any DG action at all
*It has a couple fun and unique holes
*It's a great place to take your beginner friends
Overall, this newbie is a decent little 9-holer and I'm glad I have another course to play occasionally.

The Back Nine Is A Slightly Tougher Version Of The Front! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lying 2/3 of a mile almost due south of Springvale North is the back nine course, Springdale South. This course is designed to played either as the back nine or as a seperate course, your choice. The baskets are numbered 10-18. As with the North course everything here is brand new and still has that new car smell. New DGA baskets with the numbers on top facing towards the throwers, new concrete teepads and new wonderful tee signs with a small map of the hole, distance, par and hole #. I sincerely hope the local Natzi youth do feel the urge to mark up the signs and pads.
This course is slightly longer, more challengingly, hillier and plays three holes through a undeveloped brown, scrubby section of the park. You'll need shoes for this nine. The rest of the course is that same wonderful, lush, green grass. I'd call this nine a typical recreational course. It still has some fun little ACE runs.

Cons:

I think there's room for a full 18 on this site. It's 2/3 of a mile from the North course. I think it's meant to be drivin between.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed playing these two courses together. There was quite a crowd on the courses today. The rec department did a really top notch job putting these two (one) courses together. They should be commended.

Take care, don't litter and some of you guys get out and stake out these courses at 2 AM everynigh,t keeping a watchful eye out for the local marauding packs of teens with their cans of spray paint.

This is a longer more technical course than the 9 earlier holes at the north springvale. Look for a place on the south of 136th to park or drive between the two.
