A Small But Fun 9-Hole Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 27, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Short, 9 hole par 3 course with a fun layout for novices but interesting/difficult enough for veteran players.
--The course features a few wide open shots (holes 1-3), many tree obstacles (holes 4-9), OBs (street), and elevation changes (a rarity on most local courses).
--Course is in a park with a concrete walking path and a pair of benches, however the course does not feature a lot of walkers.
--Concrete tee pads, with some tee pads include the concrete of the walking path that goes through the park.
--Tee pads are well marked with signage designating hole number and distance to pin. Direction signage clips are included in the top of each basket, pointing to the next tee pad.
--Nice view of Tom's Bayou from tee pad of hole 4.
--Nice elevation changes for holes 4 through 9, with a pair that include some death putt opportunities. Also an opportunity to find and try multiple lines on these holes.
--Quality baskets.
--Rest room located by the parking area next to hole one.

Cons:

Note that this course is new (barely two weeks old as this review is written and course upgrades are continuing, so some of this may change over time):
--Park is small and they made the best use of space, but some baskets are close to the next tee pad. Therefore, if there is a group ahead of you, you will have to wait for all of them to tee before you can launch a clear, safe shot to your target.
--Holes 1 and 2 are somewhat close to residential backyards (but no danger to hitting a house).
--The center of the park, where a creek runs, is very muddy. Can easily sink up to your knees in the mud, so caution is needed for anyone who ventures into that area looking for misfired disc.
--Grass by hole 3 is soggy, mucky and you will sink.
--While the baskets do have directional aids in the form of basket clips (pointing to the next tee pad), they are not helpful unless you know they are there.
--There is no hole that is close to 300', so unless you make up your own tee location, there is no chance to throw a bomb on the course.

Other Thoughts:

A great start to a new course. A great compliment to the Boggy Bayou course in Niceville, which has fewer obstacles but longer holes. This course is a welcome addition to the strong and growing disc golf scene in the western Florida Panhandle region.
