Vernon Town Hall DGC is a little 5 hole practice course that encircles a pair of baseball diamonds on land owned by the town hall. Nobody will call this a destination course, but it's a neat setup for a little bit of plastic-chuckin' practice.

1) Baskets/Tees/Signs - the baskets are Mach 2's, which I wouldn't want to be seeing at any 18 holer, but for a practice pitch & putt like this, they're fine. Ribbed rubber tees which actually gripped pretty well. Not sure if I'd want to play off of these in the winter, but for the rest of the year, they work. Rudimentary signage, but it's better than a surprising amount of courses around town.

2) Straightforward layout: 5 holes that start at the parking lot, end at the parking lot, and the next tee is easy to find from the prior basket. One transition does force you to walk through the outfield fence of one of the diamonds, but it's still pretty intuitive.

3) Kid-friendly: I think this is the strongest thing Vernon Town Hall has going for it, is that the course is very friendly for beginners. You can bring children just learning the game/learning how to throw here, and won't crush their spirits with extra-difficult jaunts through the woods. There's a playground next to 5's tee (thankfully not in its line of fire) that the kiddos can go play on too. One hole is randomly kind of long (roughly 325' IIRC) to offer some basic challenge to the grown-ups.

4) Surprising elevation: 3 of 5 holes either play uphill or downhill. No hole rises or falls more than say, 15-20' or so, but I was expecting "flat as a board", and it did come into play.

1) Unplayability during baseball/softball games - this is a no for me, dawg. Can't be walking thru the outfield fence when there's a game going on, or be tossing plastic that has any chance at sailing onto the fields (which is easier than you'd think).

2) Challenge/"Caliber of Golf" - it's 5 pitch and putt practice holes. You've got a bit of elevation, and one hole over 300', but otherwise, it's obstacle-free holes hovering around 200' all the way.

3) It seemed like there was potential on the available land for a handful more holes in the woods/low lying areas beyond the borders of the course. Would have been a few more certainly more difficult holes to spice things up if so.

4) Location: I appreciate the town for putting this in, and they certainly can't control where they're geographically located, but this is getting kind of out in the boonies for anyone who doesn't live within 5-10 miles or so, so its reach is going to be limited.

Vernon Town Hall DGC is at its best when you appreciate it for what it is, a 5 hole practice course that you can bring the kiddos to show them the ropes of the game, and let them run around the playground when you've finished up. There's value in these sorts of courses, even if it's kind of out there for most MKE area residents.

For experienced players, Vernon probably won't move the needle much, and isn't really worth any significant travel to, unless you're the extreme bagger type.

There are far worse ways to spend an hour or two with the family & kiddos, though!

some greens could have been cut out more from the surrounding green

i feel like i see this course everywhere because i see this type of park everywhere, a small baseball diamond or two with some woods around them. this course is great to perk the interests of people who might not have been exposed to DG.
