Pros:

-There are baskets and a few nice, though short, teepads.

-Rough terrain, but mostly open forest floor... pretty easy to find wayward discs.

-It's fun to be on a ski mountain.

Cons:

-Individual hole design is poor. The short holes are kind of fun, but the long ones are completely inaccessible with no routes whatsoever. Either a huge amount of tree removal needs to take place to make these beasts into tournament level par threes or each of the long holes needs to be bifurcated into two smaller holes.
Even if there was massive tree removal, the design of the long holes would still need to be rerouted-- They don't yet make discs that go "hard right a hundred feet, then straight a couple hundred feet, then hard right again uphill through dense trees then left then right again"

-a couple holes on the back were unplayable because of children's summer camp activities.

-The signage that points you to hole one is weird and wrong. Stay left and low to find the course-- it's basically behind the apartments.

-No payoff hole. What's the point of a ski mountain course without a big payoff hole?!

-Most of the fairways are along rocky and craggy trail, discs can get a little chewed up.

Other Thoughts:

Pretty frustrating, as with most ski hill courses.
Unless I lived up at BV, I would have no reason to return.

Close, but not yet 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Disc golf on a ski mountain is always a good idea. The terrain and elevation lends itself perfectly to the game and this could be a great course with some investment. I played during mud season in Vermont, so I got what I expected in terms of footing, but the rough edges of this course are part of its charm.

Playing in and around the ski lifts in places, through woods in places and up the hill, especially on the front 9 make it as much of a hike as it is a sport.

I was the only one on the course and the solitude was welcomed. I even cheated on my scorecard a couple of times.

Cons:

The tee-pads are rudimentary and signage is non-existent on the front nine and then just a print out of the U-Disc layout sporadically placed on the back 9.

I played on June 2, almost two full weeks before the official opening date of June 15, so I appreciate being let on the course at all, but that being said, the 17th basket was nowhere to be found and finding the next hole, especially on the front, was no easy trick.

It is not a manicured track there for its aesthetics, but I think I maybe should have put that thought in the Pros section. If you want that, play Smuggs.

Other Thoughts:

This place has room to grow, but I think that is part of the fun. If Bolton Valley keeps adding to it and maintaining it, it will be interesting to watch its evolution.

Course with lots of potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 28, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Shot shapes and hole types are well designed and balanced. Course uses the terrain of the ski mountain and trails well to make fairways. Baskets are placed to make thought provoking putts. Quite scenic and having a shop at the cafe is nice. Dog friendly.

Cons:

Lack of signage makes navigation a bit difficult. Rough is not well groomed but will get better with time. Permenant teepads, or leveled teepads, would be a big boost toward making this a great course.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course in central VT an upgrade to teepads and signage would bump up the rating to 4 stars.

Constantly changing layout 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 2, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great use of downhill and XC ski trails.
Super fun, technical woods lanes that VT is known for.

Cons:

Some of the teepads pads are rough, some will need time and foot traffic to flatten out
Painted rocks as tee markers are doing the job for now but something a little more permanent/visible would be really nice

Other Thoughts:

2021 UPDATE: The course has undergone a ton of changes, replaced half of the holes (the more scenic ones) in order to lessen the mountain bike trail cross-over. Because of the changes, they opened pretty late in the season.
