Wadsworthy!

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

~Expanded to a full 18 with concrete tees
~Excellent mix of holes, fantastic flow
~Variety and fun factors geared toward the intermediate player
~Clean, pristine public park setting
~Repeatable play
~Great amenities, close to downtown Wadsworth
~Navigation is easy breezy

Cons:

~Would benefit from more informative signs
~A couple holes could relax some of the mando's in place
~Spots where traffic and nearby holes become too close for comfort

Other Thoughts:

I remember playing the original 9-hole course early in my disc golf discovery and it wasn't good. Huge shout out to the local crew who has created an 18-hole gem of fun, this is truly one of the more "just simply fun golf" courses in the area. Geared toward the intermediate level golfer most holes have moderate distance with ample technicality to appeal to the majority of the throwers in our region.

Fantastic mix of holes and great variety. Great mix of wooded technical holes and classic park style shots, the layout never gets dull or repetitive and has a high level of repeatability. The park is of good size and is well manicured with plenty of accommodations and amenities for everyone.

Navigation is fairly straightforward and this first time visitor had no issues finding my way around. Tee pads are new, as in just poured a couple days ago and provide an excellent improvement to this course. Tee signs are basic, but based on the work that's gone into improving this course lately I would bet new signs aren't too far behind.

While the layout takes advantage of the entire park, there are a couple spots where holes play close to one another, not an issue during casual play but could factor into events or busy park days. There are a few minor design issues I found, primarily on a couple holes with mando's and pin placements that I'd massage, but that's more personal preference and in no way is a major detractor.

I look forward to playing this course again and again, and with other nearby courses this area of northeast oHIo is worth the drive from my house. On another note Wadsworth Brewing Co. is a few minutes away in downtown and worth the stop after a round for a beer or three, Cheers!

Beautiful intermediate track

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pretty and quit rolling property.
A great deal of effort when into building and maintaining this course. It's fun to play with a few water, elevation , wooded and open shots.

The course is good for beginners and intermediate players. Advanced golfers will find the course easy. Nice addition to NE Ohio dg.

Cons:

There are no tee pads yet.

From 0.5 to 3.5 - The Incredible Transformation of Wadsworth Memorial DGC

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 17, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

15 minutes from my home sits Wadsworth Memorial Disc Golf Course at Veteran's Memorial Park. Since it's inception in 2011, it had been labeled as one of the worst courses in the state of Ohio.

Waist high grass, broken baskets, and a terrible layout made this course an absolute ghost town on the verge of extinction.

It would take a group of superheroes to save this place, and boy did they show up in their capes.

Countless hours of volunteer work has turned Wadsworth Memorial into one of the better courses in the area!

+ While on the shorter side, the current design perfectly utilizes what the park has to offer, making for a very fun round. The first few holes are heavily wooded before the rest of the course opens up to a park style track. The pond comes into play several times, including the water carry on #17. When elevation is present, it is used.

+ If I were to pick out my favorite holes, I'd have to go with #4, #5, #10, and #17. All of them have some type of water in play with fun basket placements.

+ There are big plans for this summer, including the addition of concrete tee pads to the holes that don't have them yet. Permanent tee signs are also planned to be installed this summer.

+ There are many unique basket placements, which spice up some of the shorter holes. #2 is a hanging basket, while #13 and #17 are elevated. Many baskets has a bright red flag on top to easily spot them.

+ There are navigational arrows underneath every basket to simplify navigation.

+ Being adjacent to the impressive Art Wright Stadium, there is plenty of parking available on site. The course entrance is pretty easy to spot. There is a practice basket there as well.

Cons:

- The average hole length here is only 268 feet, so more experienced players should score well under par.

- The 18-hole layout is still new, so it still needs broken in. Keep this is mind when you come out to play.

- The geese aren't the friendliest of hosts, especially when the babies are around. They'll hiss and charge, so try to stay away from them if you can.

- At the time of this review, there were no permanent tee pads or tee signs. This wasn't taken into account for the rating because they'll be coming within a few months.

Other Thoughts:

Seeing the complete transformation of Wadsworth Memorial DGC is mind blowing, especially in such a short amount of time.

Shoutout to everyone who made this happen. The future of disc golf is now much brighter in Wadsworth!

Note: When uploading course photos, I typically upload the view from each tee. I'm holding off on taking those until the concrete is poured. In the meantime, there are basket-to-tee photos posted as well as a few of the tee pads that are finalized.
