Decent Course On The Big Muddy! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Warfield Point Park is a nice wooded park on the banks of the Mississippi River. The park has about a thousand of these little barbecues with a round table attached together. About half of them are broke and should be removed. As I was attempting to navigate this course, these kept catching my eye. The park is not quite flat, it has a little role to it. The small amount of elevation is used effectively especially on my favorite hole, # 12. More on # 12 later.

The course starts near the back by the trail riders (ATV) parking lot . There is a kiosk here with a nice colored course map. It makes the navigation look easy. There are sometimes natural tee pads and other times no pads. Some have a front board and others have nothing. Most holes have a colored tee sign, although the signs are missing for #'s 1 & 2. Some of the signs are weathered and hard to read while # 12 is lying in the ground and will soon be lost if not reattached soon. The baskets are single chain and I'm not sure what kind although # 5 did have a Mach II with double chains. There are poles at each hole with nails to hang your bag on. They're just not always close to the tee pad.

Most of the holes are pretty pedestrian in nature although I did like 12 and 18 more than the rest. # 12 is 420' through a smallish window. This is just a very pretty hole with a natural looking fairway. # 18 is a 300' slight downhill throwing needing a little hyser at the end to reach the basket which is between some trees.

Course plays 9 holes and then the back 9 loops back to the start.

Cons:

I struggled with navigation, mostly in the front 9. I had to consult my map on each hole. There are small next tee boards attached to the bottom rungs of the basket but unfortunately, they have faded and are no longer legible.

Natural tee pads are inconsistent, sometimes hard to locate, sometimes with a front board, others with nothing.

Tee signs are missing, 1 & 2, or broken on # 12 or badly weathered on some other holes. There are hundreds of poles, pipes and other assorted things sticking up in this park. All could pass for a tee sign.

Single chain baskets.

Just in front of the # 5 basket, the park's maintenance men have parked a large utility trailer and a couple of tractor attachments here.

Many holes seemed longer than the distances listed on the signs.

Other Thoughts:

This was a frustrating experience for me having to play while consulting my map each hole. The course just didn't have enough natural flow. This combined with the sub-standard baskets, tee pads and missing signage, makes for a very average overall experience here. It's such a shame because this nice terrain deserves more.
