Pros:
A nine hole course. All that's left on holes # 1, 5 and 8 are shallow graves where brand new DGA baskets with the red numbers on top once stood. Now beside the isolation of this course, the holes left are very shallow, probably only 8 inches deep. I'm always thrilled when a scout takes on a disc golf course for an Eagle Badge project but here I'm thinking if he had used five bags of concrete per hole and a couple of cross beams mixed, those baskets wouldn't pulled out so easy.
The course which starts about one block from the church features small rubber mats and small, very basic signs. Some holes are technical to a fault, as in, I'm not throwing this hole and then going in to that nasty brush to find my disc. Holes 1 and 2 both fell into this category for me.
I liked # 7 which was just a simple little 140' hyzer throw.
And then # 8 was already confusing as the tee signs facing the wrong way. Once I figured out that I was to throw downhill, I discovered another shallow grave. Too bad, this could be a nice hole.
And # 9 is just a really poorly designed hole. As you walk up to the pad you see the basket up near the course's starting point. There is a street along the right side of the course here. From the tee pad, the hole is 330' away. There is a miniscule little fairway ahead of you with nothing but prickly problems beckoning. Or you could try to stand back from the tee pad and throw a big hyzer up over the street and traffic to the basket. Better players can make this throw. Rec players will throw into traffic and the street and who knows where?
Cons:
Like jacobvaden says, "The course is technical to a fault." To me, that means the hole is too tight, too prickley, too much of a chance of a lost disc or bloodying up your arms and legs trying to retrieve it. I usually skip those types of holes.
The course needs a lot of trimming and pruning and clearing. Maybe just a lot of players playing to beat it down.
Three baskets stolen since the course has been open is not good. Someone needs to shore up the security (MORE CONCRETE UNDER THEM) or else I think they might all be gone soon.
Other Thoughts:
In Saudi Arabia, they used to cut off your hand for thievery. I propose the penalty of one finger chopped for each basket pilfered. I'd be willing to bet no scumbag would come sneaking onto the course under the cover of darkness and digging up these nice new DGA baskets knowing he was risking was one of his digits!
