DG on ESPN... getting closer.

Except for the whole 200 feet comment, the video is great.

the comment was along the lines of disc golf should be thought in feet instead of yards. All he said was that a 200ft hole is a par 3. That comment alone makes sense and helps a ball golfer understand a little better.

Feldberg is great for this sport. Man, how neat would that be to get a segment on E:60?!

This is a tremendous overview video. Everyone needs to share the living hell out of this via social/email.

All he said was that a 200ft hole is a par 3.

He said "holes under 200 yards in ball golf are par 3's. holes under 200 ft in disc golf are par 3's."

This implies hole over that mark are par 4's.

Implies is a key work. it's like the word assumption. When you assumption you make an a** out of u and mption. Or something like that :D

(I'm not good at this whole "trolling" thing)

Are we seriously quibbling over this? I think you may be reading a bit too much into an off the cuff remark.

Feldberg's statement about holes under 200' being par 3s, clearly not an absolute truth, will do untold damage to the growth of the sport. I'm predicting that, as a result of this statement, the pins will be pulled at Kensington before I get out there for this afternoon's round, and that DGCR will limp along for another 6 months or so before TimG takes it out back and puts it down.

espn is more mainstream.. younger kids will see it. I don't think the target audience are the people watching the golf channel.

Great video btw, thanks for sharing OP

shouldn't we be aiming for the Golf Channel?
i have 5 simple keys to you thinking straighter son :)

ESPN > Golf Channel.... Golf C's demographic is ooooooooooold old old old. Almost as old as Fox News' demo. Srsly watch 10 commercials and tell me if you'd waste a penny trying to get Golf Channel's attention.

Oh certainly that would be great. But you also take the door of opportunity when it opens (anywhere)

Specifically, with the Golf Channel (which is an NBC affiliated product as I understand it) the best opportunity for disc golf would be on their "Golf In America" series. It's an occasional 30 min three part segment program highlighting all the side programs of competitive and recreational golf. Usually has at least one or more of the segments featuring a social program for youth, injured veterans, underserved, low income, etc. Human interest stories with some tie in to the sport. Sometimes that connection is very loose.

A featurette including disc golf, if ever to happen, would likely end up in that kind of package first, rather than with competitive event coverage.

This is true... and here's an interesting flipside...

at some point having a very aging demographic is self destructive to your audience. At some point, they (Golf Ch) may be actively seeking to freshen up and regain a more youthful segment of viewership. Or at least try to. It would be wise for the sport to be ready to answer that opportunity. (the pennies then might be coming from them seeking us out)

plus.. who says DG is just for young people? Growth in demographics outside males ages 17-40 is a good thing

But you are right that money best spent is likely not chasing networks around. Think less like how ESPN or Golf Channel thinks, and more like how Red Bull, or how Skate companies would promote. Eventually the two meet.

That video was pretty awesome.

I found it interesting that Dave was by far the oldest person they showed in the video. I wonder if they are trying to show disc golf in the same light as skateboarding or other fringe sports where most of the participants are young, athletic and somewhat alternative. This would probably be a good way to draw in some younger players.

All in all great camera work, video quality is excellent and Dave is a great spokesman for the sport.

Instead of getting caught up in semantics, let's applaud an amazing video. This is exactly the kind of stuff disc golf needs.

Awesome work!

Look at who played that tournament and you will see why they showed who they showed. It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with who was there.

Maybe it's just me, and I'm sure I'm going to get reamed, but...

I personally would prefer that DG not be on ESPN.. Just my opinion, I like disc golf because it IS NOT mainstream and there are not little wannabe kiddies dressing in the finest fashions of the sport throwing discs everywhere...

Disc golf was on ESPN back in 1999. They showed a clip of Kenny hitting an ace on some sort of golf show.. Don't remember the name.
