Having lost my Yeti Pro Aviar a couple weeks ago I thought it was time to try something new. So, I've picked myself up a couple Wizards off the marketplace but am not in possession of them yet. Just wondering what people throwing these think of them in comparison? One is SSS and the other is SS. If you use these let me know what you think. Thanks

Wizards are great putters.. I dont think they "fly" glide wise as well as alot of putters (I spin putt and Use Challengers) but they are AWESOME throwers. Also the plastic varies quite abit.

Wizards are great putters and you will grow to like them the more you putt with them. They are a bit more stable than a Yeti Pro Aviar.

I've thrown the Yeti Pro Aviar before and I feel a better comparison would be to a Voodoo. The Voodoo has a smaller bead.

Going back to the Wizard, once your Wizards are broke in real good they will have that flight that the Yeti Pro Aviar had.

I think you've found your main putter! Give it at least two weeks of solid practice and I think you'll really dig them - they are solid stable putters and great discs for controlled drives off the teepad as well. Keep us updated on the progress...

And if you don't like them, make sure to trade them to me!

Despite being big bead like the Wizard, I've always thought the Yeti was more like a Voodoo than a Wizard.

I think I'll love them once I get used to them. Plus, I just loved the beautiful stamp on this Wizard. it's the one on the left side.

They will be great for powerful drives right now. Once you putt with them 500 times they will fly so straight and nice for putts, upshots, and 200ft drives. If you like the feel in hand stick with them you will like them a lot once you get to know them.

I don't really understand the concept of "soft" putters since I've never thrown one. What do they feel like? Are they flexible like Discraft's FLX?

Gateway's "Soft" classification is different than everybody else. There's refers to material blend whereas everyone else refers to firmness. That leads to all the "inconsistent" talk about them. If you like one of the Wizards you've gotten and want to continue with them, I would contact Gateway directly, explain to them exactly what you want, and buy 10 of them.

As you use your Wizards, they'll soften and really start showing their true selves. I've had SSS Wizards that are firmer when new than my Softs. As I used the SSS, it started softening and truly started "feeling" like a SSS.

I too came from a Yeti background as it was my main putter for a little bit, but I was hooked on Wizards as soon as I got them. I still keep the Yeti in the bag as my main putting driver, but the wizards are amazing for putting.

Also, as others have said gateway's plastics are all a bit different. I have tried almost all of them and settled on Softs as they were ironically the hardest plastic. But they all feel great in the hand and the more you putt with them the better they get.

I putt with SS Wizards, I use a fairly new one to drive with and rotate 2 broken in ones to putt. SS is somewhat stiff yet bendable. I still carry a Medium Wizard which is stiff as a board, but it's no longer PDGA approved. Once you get one broken in, it'll fly DFS and have just a little bit of fade. You're going to enjoy your choice of Wizards. I'd putt with the SSS and drive with the SS.

They sound awesome, can't wait to get them in my hands and try them out. And, the plastic feels softer the more you throw them?

All plastic gets softer the more you use it. My G9i started out incredibly firm but now is rather soft.

Every Wizard I've thrown has been as hard as a rock. Even the SS's. Never got why they mislead you to think they're soft.

Glad you read previous posts before spouting off gibberish. :|

This is wrong. They were asked to stop making them, but they were never made illegal for sanctioned events.

Your new Wizards are going to feel a lot deeper than your Yeti and they will fade harder. If you drive your putters, keep your Yeti around for anhyzers and dead straight shots until one of your wizards gets seasoned. Enjoy!

I like chalkys and erasers, but as has already been pointed out, gateway is maddeningly inconsistent. the new dark blue erasers are smooth and have no eraser like qualities to them at all, except for the stamp. that said, when you find a good one it is $.

I've never heard it put this way before, and I'm intrigued. Can you elaborate a little on how the classification is linked to the material blend? Do they just have certain plastics that are tied to an SS or SSS or whatever rating, no matter what?
