" This Just In . Trees Assault Baskets " 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Indian Run United Methodist Church had some extra space on the grounds , and decided to use some of it to make a 9 hole disc golf course .
. Park up by the far end near a banquet hall . You will see some of the baskets . No bathrooms facilities that I could see , so you are on your own .
THE EQUIPMENT - Up by hole 1 there is a small post about the size of a tee sign , with a kiosk on it . Take a picture , because this course angles in and around trees , and can be confusing in spots . The tee pads are all natural . easy to spot , they are almost right next to the baskets here . The signage is at it's basic . Metal on metal posts in the ground, with just a hole number on them . The baskets are numbered Mach 2 .
THE LANDSCAPE -- The grass was mowed and the trees were cut back enough . The course only takes up about 1/3 of the open church grounds . They abandoned the most open part and concentrated on the end near the banquet hall and playground , where the trees and bushes were . The course slopes a little , but it's mostly flat . The course designer used most of these trees to either flank baskets or occupy much of the fairway . You will understand it when you see hole #1 . Only 110' it is almost a straight shot with almost no angle to get a clear look at an ace . The only hole that has no tree within arms reach of it is #9 .
POINT OF INTEREST -- No highlight holes here , but one that will get your attention is #7 . The scorecard says 180' , but it is longer . It goes up a slope to a green that is half circled by large fir trees . The green sits in kind of a bowl . It looks pretty cool once you get up to the top of the slope .
THE TIME -- My time was messed up when I shot from the 3 tee to the 6 basket , about 400 + feet away . If you figure out what you are doing, you can play all 9 holes in about 20 minutes . A foursome will get through in under 40 .
DISC RISK -- Very low . The course is short , has no water , and the church grounds are very clean . Unless you throw it way up in a tree , or short arm the fence on #4 , you won't lose one .
It's a fast , park-style play and you may have the course to yourself for the round .

Cons:

There are some flaws worth mentioning here .
#1 Safety . Many of the tee signs are close to the preceding basket , This means that you will have to space any play with more than 1 group at least 2 holes apart . Also , if you throw right hand forehand , or left hand backhand , the kids fenced in playground on the left of the fairway on 4 is primed for a newbie or intro to chuck their midrange into mom and the kids . Skip the hole , if you can't control ( rhyme ) .
#2 Navigation -- The course goes out and away for 2 holes , then back towards the building on #3 , follows the fenceline for 4 & 5 , throws down and away from it on 6 , then comes up the hill angling toward it for 7 away a little and uphill for 8 and toward a clearing near the #1 tee and the parking lot . Whew ! easy for me to say . Take a pic of map or study it , and always try to go in the direction of the sign post .
#3 Challenge -- Hey , the holes aren't easy to ace , but easy enough for a deuce fest. You will still scratch your head as to where these baskets are placed .
#4 Unused Land -- There is a lot of unused property here . Maybe they didn't want holes occupying all of it ,but you could add or lengthen holes so you can air out a drive or 2 .
#5 Limited Play -- The course is only open on weekday evenings and weekends .
9 -- Only 9 holes . Maybe 12+ in the future ?

Other Thoughts:

My scoring should not be a deterrent for playing here . I have always thought that school and church courses are a great way to introduce them to the local community and the curious . A subtle form of advertisement . Also worth mentioning :near the hole 5 basket and 6 tee , there is a semi circling gathering place with benches , pointed toward a cross with a white shroud on it . It was thought provoking at least for me . Thank You , Indian Mound United Methodist Church for taking an interest in disc golf and allowing the public to play .

MY RECOMMENDATION -- It's short , so it's a good intro course and a chance for newbies to get their short game in order . Also good for the church congregation and local families to get together after worship or an after dinner round . School kids will like this , too . Locals can get a quick round in instead of going up to Glacier Ridge . This is what I call no more than putting practice for intermediates on up .Not far off of Rt33 and I-270 , a weary traveler might get off of the road for a quick 20 minute round and a cola . The course bagger will love the quick round and be able to combine it with courses like Glacier Ridge , Balgriffin and Pastime Park .Don't go out of your way to play it , but it is a self paced relaxing round . It's Up To You .

Great one for the kids 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice course map at the tee for hole 1. The tee signs are easy to find, partly because they're so close to the previous basket.
- The course begins and ends right next to the parking lot. Combined with the (very) short walks to the next tees and the short hole lengths, it plays very quickly with very little effort.
- Appears to be well maintained.
- The design is really good for beginners and kids. There are no blind shots, and the baskets are always visible from the tee. Nearly every basket is protected, and most of the fairways have some obstacle in play.

Cons:

- The natural tee pads are all unmarked except for the tee sign, and those signs are mostly within 10' of the previous baskets.
- Tee signs offer hole number and par, but no distances.
- Hole 4 plays along the short fence surrounding a playground. It's likely that kids will throw one over occasionally.
- Holes 3 and 9 cross each other, so take a look around before you throw on those holes.

Other Thoughts:

- It seems ideal for players rated 800 and below (purple, yellow). Higher skill levels will find a few ace runs and an opportunity to work on their approaches.
- There's no practice basket, but #9 is close enough to the first tee that you could use that.

Family Friendly Rating: 4.0
Pros: It's a safe, friendly environment for kids. It's the most easy-hike-for-a-kid course I've ever played, and pushing a stroller would be pretty easy as well. You're never far from the parking lot if you do need to leave mid-round.
Cons: The church has restrooms and a playground, but I suspect they're not available during course hours (evenings and weekends).
Other Notes: Balgriffen Park is another kid-friendly course nearby. There's a ton of family-friendly things to do in the area, but I'll specifically mention the Dublin Arts Council's Art in Public Places, which is fun for people of all ages to discover.
