Long 9 holer that need TLC 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has length and thick rough and water threat to challenge you. There are a few trees, see holes 1 and 3, to navigate around.
There is a bit of elevation change.
The fairways were mowed nice and neat and well defined.
Most likely you will have the place to yourself, if you like playing in privacy.

Here are my hole observations:
1-is open and then there is a group of trees that protects the basket. This is a good hole and the best one here in my opinion
2-throws up hill over the tall rough and the basket is out in the open
3-throws downhill over the thick rough and has a couple of trees to navigate around as well. The basket is next to the bank of the river.
4-is a very open hole, with the river on your left side, the basket is nestled under some trees next to the fence row
5-very long and open hole that plays next to the river that is on your right side
6-plays uphill and shoots over some tall grass, the basket is out in the open
7-another long hole, the longest, that is open. The basket is positioned under some trees with tall grass on the left and the river on the right
8-very wide open hole
9-very open hole with a couple of trees lining the last part of the fairway on the right side. Plays left to right

Cons:

There aren't any tee signs and the course map that used to be on a big sign where you start the course by hole #1 is gone.
Also the tee pads are a bit narrow and for some reason they have been painted. This looks different but there isn't much grip to be found on these pads, especially if you play when there is dew on the grass.
Speaking of the tee pads they need to run a weed eater around the pads and trim them up. Many of the pads had weeds that were knee high surrounding the pads.
The main issue here for me is the navigation. Hole 1 makes sense and then is starts to get sketchy from there. Playing with a local would probably be your best bet. The baskets are homemade and did a decent job of catching discs.
The rough is very thick and rough. Losing a disc is a good possibility and having a spotter is a good idea. If a disc heads towards the river its most likely gone. The bank of the river itself is very steep.
Also this course isn't a course I would take a beginner to. There is just too much length at times and too many chances to lose a disc that it would frustrate a new player too much.
Wind is going to be a factor here because of the openness of this course. Also on a hot summers day there isn't going to be much shade.
No trash cans or benches or any other amenities here.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't a bad course but it does need some attention to move up a half a disc for me. If the tee pads weren't slick, and there were some tee signs, and the rough was thinned out a bit(holes 2 and 3 especially) then it would get a 2.5 from me. As it is I just can't give it a 2.5. It is a decent course that is going to test your arm and accuracy as well. If you play with a spotter and you have good control over your disc then you will be fine. Not a must play by any means but if you are looking for a 9 holer with distance and thick rough then this course will be right up your alley. If you prefer a more technical course then skip this one and head to Lake Ponca Bois D' Arc.

Decent 9 hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 5, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Great views of the river. This course is really pretty at certain angles.

-Has some pretty long holes for a 9 hole

-Homemade baskets work well

-pretty good tee pads

-decent variety of shots

Cons:

-The layout is difficult to figure out, even with the course map by hole 1. The big sign/map needs to be re-made. Numbers on the baskets and tees would be very helpful. Tee signs would be great!

-Typical with a lot of Oklahoma courses, there is a lot of trash all over the course. Not sure if trash cans would help, but they would be nice.

-there are a couple holes with intersecting fairways. This could be dangerous if multiple groups played here simultaneously.

Other Thoughts:

This course does have it's charm and I would play here again for sure. It will be a lot more enjoyable now that I know the layout. The tee pads were painted once, which looks like it used to be pretty cool. This course needs some love.

Well designed 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Excellent use of property with a nice variety of shots. Homemade baskets catch great. River is in play on a few holes. Very little traffic.

Cons:

Teepads are horrible at best. Kind of confusing to play without a local

Other Thoughts:

Very well thought out course. Leroy keeps it in great shape.
