Typical field bomber stop 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 5, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- To start, the fact that a company course is freely open to the public. I'd never played a company course prior to this one, and was happily surprised by the experience. You have to applaud Michelin's effort into designing and building a course in the first place, and allowing anyone in to play it.
- Plenty of parking right near where you start and end.
- Nice Discatcher baskets in good shape.
- No disk loss risk.
- Plenty of bomb opportunities if you're looking to work on your long game. And if you're already precise with your bombs then multiple birdies await you here.
- Surprisingly nice tee signs with decently accurate maps on them.
- Hole #2 is a scenic downhill bomb opportunity for birdie, with the basket nestled up against the brush under a big hardwood tree you can just drop a hyzer around or in front of.
- A quick play that's likely never busy, and it's easy to navigate once you find the first tee.

Cons:

- You're literally a driver shot from Interstate 26 for a third of the course, so tons of road noise doesn't let you feel like you're out enjoying 'a day in the park'.
- It was very still the day I played, but wind could be a real nuisance here due to the lack of tree cover over the park area.
- The "park" the course circles around, by the way, looks like it's been abandoned for 20 years. Kind of creepy the way the seesaws, baseball field, and tennis courts are simply rotting away... I don't think it's a vagrant hangout or anything (too remote), but it doesn't give the course an inviting vibe.
- No real unique hole or any other aspect that will spark your desire to come back. Makes it fine for course baggers and beginners, but definitely not worth a trip out of your way.

Other Thoughts:

- There's nothing outside the ordinary here, so if you come in expecting that you'll enjoy your round no problem. Don't get me wrong, glad I stopped and played, but it is what it is: a typical lightly-wooded 9 holes.

- Being located right off two interstates makes it a great place for a quick warmup before hitting one of the area 18 holers (like USC UPstate just 5 minutes away) or for a road trip stretch break.

Fun round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 26, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice goals.
-Layout is not a cupcake.
-Quick round possible
-Plenty of parking.
-Decent tee signs
-Cart friendly
-Easy navigation

Cons:

-No bathrooms on site
-No tee pads, just dirt.
-Several swampy areas in play on course

Other Thoughts:

I love that a course was installed at this site. It is a great option for a lunch break round. Parking in the front area of the plant is spacious and secure with cameras and Michelin security patrolling.

The space was used fairly well. There were some challenging holes and one decent length hole. Trees come into play and make you work both forehand and backhand.

Hole 4 tee pad is directly in front of the main water drainage that comes into the area when it rains. It makes the tee pad a certain muddy mess any time we get rain. I would probably have backed it up a bit to find dry ground.

I gave it a 2 mostly because of the cons, but don't let that scare you away from playing. It was a fun round!

Michelin Man

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 10, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Michelin is a simple 9-hole course that plays on the outskirts of the tire's plant. Nothing flashy here. This course is as tough as the Michelin Man's midsection.
- Course is a simple 9-hole loop that plays around a ball field on the company grounds. Pull in the front entrance turn left and keep heading past the visitor lot to the first hole.
- Hole #2, by default, is the course's best. It's a downhill 307-foot shot to a basket behind a decent-sized tree. After that, I hope you like consistency as the remainder of the course is slight variations of the same layout.
- #3 is a slight uphill hole to an open basket. Holes #1 & 4 - 8 all have layouts featuring some degree of tree coverage and hole lengths ranging from 299 - 423 feet. Of these six holes, #5 is the best. It's a slight dogleg right, 423-foot layout. Depending on your tee shot, and distance, determines how aggressive you'll be with your second shot.
- Course allows you to recover from hit trees. Except for #7, shots impacted by trees should be salvaged by real chances to get an up-and-down. #7 has the heaviest tree coverage, and the most likely to result in a round of Plinko.
- You can pull out driver and/or be aggressive off the tee on every hole. Get your distance off the tee, see some birdie putts, or just take your par 3s and move on.
- Course ends right back at the first tee. Great if you want to play twice. I parked right next to the first tee, unlocked the car as I was finishing up my round, and out of there two minutes later.

Cons:

This is a simplistic layout. It would be more of a negative if someone picked this plot of land to install a course. When a business decides to install a course, and this is what's there, I'm more understanding and appreciative of the gesture.
- After finishing #2, you can't see the tee sign marker for #3. I had to pull out the online map to find it. For the rest of the round, the following hole tee signs are all easily visible from the previous hole baskets.
- Maybe the course would be flashier with more variety. For example, extend #5 to make it 500+ feet and shorten #6 to around 200 feet. Now you've got a legit par 4 and a very birdie-able/ace run layout.
- No trash cans or benches on the course. You're here for 20 - 30 minutes so shouldn't be an issue.
- Is it a good or bad thing there's seemingly no issue for the public to show up and play? I'm assuming this course is open for public play. If not, I guess I looked harmless playing a Sunday afternoon round.

Other Thoughts:

A very non-descript, vanilla course. Driver and putter/mid-range is all that's needed for your round.
- This is a backhanded compliment. I was pleasantly surprised there wasn't shameless promotions/ads on the tee signs. I sort of expected to see Michelin logos plastered everywhere.
- #8 and 9 were fine closing holes. #8 is a mostly straight layout, with a slight bend at the end to the basket. A dead straight throw will land you 25 feet from the basket. An s-curve can result in a parked shot.
- #9 is a dogleg left, 383-foot shot that plays around the bend of the trees. This is another hole that would have been better with a little length added at the end. As it is, it's a perfectly suitable ending to this course.
- You're really close to a couple of other similarly-skill leveled courses: USC Upstate & Upward Sport. You're also not far from some excellent courses: Pipeline, Shoally and Holston Creek. Point being, this isn't the destination it's a stop along the way. Unless you're employee here, then go crazy on your lunch break.

Good design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 29, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great use of trees; low hanging trees placed well. Throw just a little high and you are knocked down leaving you a 40-50 foot putt. Theres multiple lines on many holes. Great track to do field work/practice. Theres enough open space to throw 500+ and plenty of opportunities for 300-400 practice.

Cons:

Distance is repetative. 3 of the holes felt like the same exact shot. Course favors someone with 400 foot power. Although the design has good pin positions, I feel that 1 or 2 holes could be in the 230-250 range.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 2 appears to be a downhill hyzer around a tree, but the pin is tucked directly left of a tree with the canopy just 4 feet off the ground. Grass is too sticky to get a skip. Flip a mid down the middle.
Hole 4 is a great wooded tunnel shot. Hit your line and its a birdie, but miss and theres just enough trees that saving par will give you a little stress.
Hole 5 is short for a par 4. One of the main trees off the tee went down in 2020 leaving this closer to a par 3. If you have a 400 foot turnover backhand or a big right handed flick, you can get to the basket.
Hole 7 is a risky down the middle or a huge hyzer, just be sure you go wide enough. If you have a 400 foot hyzer you will like this one
Hole 9 all depends on your arm. The only danger is going in early to the left, but it takes a 400 foot throw to get there.
This place is normally empty which gives you an incredible practice area. There's also a soccer field in the middle that gives you more options for field work. The course is mostly open, but the area by hole 7 and 8 is wooded enough to give you some options if you want to practice hitting gaps.
