Reviewed: Played on:Jan 12, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 of the holes have tee pads.
good use of the land
Several good shots
Good use of the trees forcing a few lefty shots.
Most of the holes have fairways. (no throw and pray holes)

Cons:

Needs tee signs, although I was able to find my way round pretty good. (I had a map)
9 dirt tee pads. (I understand cement pads are being worked on)
A few of the holes are a little too close to each other forcing mando's
Mix of baskets in mixed condition.
I do not like the elevated basket on #11

Other Thoughts:

I was not expecting a course as good as this when I drove out there. I actually can't wait to get back and play this course.

I nearly aced #11 bouncing off the basket then tree and landing on the wood base. Good thing I didn't have to putt at that crap.

I was playing fast, but played the course pretty good, I shot a 46 with a few missed putts.

What I liked about this course is the amount of trees it has on the course. We don't get much of that in Texas. I also like the fact there is no rough.

There were a lot of people out there and they all offered to let me play though. That was very nice.

North Park Rundown!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 26, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Concrete t-pads for most holes. They're working on getting the others
-Different pin positions for most holes now with new positions.
-Terrain Varety (trees, small creek, open holes, elevation changes
-Not a very populated course, never really see many people out there
-Windy day course, being that the trees shelter you pretty good from it on most holes
-Numerous trash cans making the course pretty clean
-Nice park and surrounding neighborhood
-Easy to find
-Close to Arcadia #2, making for a good double course day ( Pizza Garden in between courses on Denton Highway...look it up and check it out!!! All you can eat pizza and salad for only about 4 bucks)

Cons:

-Not all the t-pads are there
-Can be one of the worst to play on a wet day, get very muddy.
-Cops do patrol this one, so keep a heads up d.golfers
-Traffic on the highway can be a biatch
-Very difficult to navigate if you don't have a map...you will get lost, so be map-in-hand

Other Thoughts:

Nothing really bad to say about this course outside the normal irritations of the game.

Fun course to play makin good used of a creek (winds through most of the frnt nine and some of the back) and trees (low ceilings, tunnel shots both left and right doglegging) Good finesse course and driving accuracy practice.

Challenging, but not to hard. Two thumbs up from me. Worth a drive if you have the time.

Something Different
Easy Birdies, But Not Gimmies

Cons:

Lack of Tee Boxes

Police Patrol

Other Thoughts:

I really like the basket that is literally in the trees, mounted on top of a wooden box. Truly unique.

A tip on finding you way to the next hole:
A single bar on the bottom basket is painted red, that will point you to in the direction of the next tee pad.

Very UNDERrated! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

I am a big fan of this course even though I was about to wak off after the second hole because of navigation issues. With that being said, this course is very cool and has just about every shot that you can use. There are some short tight holes mixed in with some open boomers as well. You will need your short technical game and then you can also use your "field" time also. The elevation is used pretty well here and makes for some fun shots!. Nothing really long so the course is pretty beginner friendly and there isnt much of a place to lose plastic. The mix of shots is fun because I think it evens out the playing field between the newer and more advanced player. There are little mable inserts in some of the tees that are pretty cool when you get them. Lots of shade which is always a bonus in Texas. The elevated basket on 11 is cool change from most courses.

Cons:

The navigation is HORRIBLE for first timers. There are no numbers on the baskets and at one time I threw to the wrong basket not knowing any better. There are no tee signs so you have to look for patches of dirt or little postage stamp concrete pads where there is concrete. The places where there is concrete the pads are small and are exposed out of the ground leading to a step up. The grass is tall so it pretty much takes aways any rollers. The course also cris crosses a couple times which doent help either.

Other Thoughts:

With all of those negatives this course is still better then the other one in the area because there are more "memorable" holes along with other bonuses. I feel that this course could be rated alot higher if there was a little work done on it and feel that the rating is low for the quality that is here. This course is way better then just a "good" rating and deserves more then that.

Not the best but... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lots of trees make this challenging.

I'd say that every hole here is put together very well considering the amount of room that was available. I still have yet to see a raised platform that the basket lays on like hole #11.

Good course for the mid summer heat b/c 75% of the course is shaded and you're less than a mile from a Race Trac to get more water if needed. Restrooms on hand at the baseball fields right next to the course and if you're lucky it'll be game night and you can hit the concession stands.

Cons:

If you haven't played here before and you have nobody with you that has... you're screwed. It is NOT easy to navigate your first couple of times, and that is a direct result of not having a lot of room to work with.

Other Thoughts:

It isn't a course that everyone will love but it is ten minutes from my house. Shaded, clean, lots of elevation changes, and I just enjoy it.

Decent course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 5, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Some fun holes to be thrown for sure.Unique pin position on 11 but Pease park in Austin number 5 hole pulls it off better.

Highlights of the round include 1,2,5,11,15 and 18.

1.Long hole through a labyrinth of trees.Beware of the parking lot!Great time to pull of that monster roller between the trees :)

2.Sidearm Ace run for righties and hyzer for the lefties. This hole is just fun and a good break from the monster first hole.

5.Sharp hyzer time! Blind Ace run here.Fun as hell to see how much hyzer you can put on your drive.

11.Watch for barking dogs,LOL.starts up on a hill with no break from the trees.A low anhyzer shot works best here.Basket built into the trunk of a tree elavated about 6 feet.

15.Grip it and rip it time! You can either start out way right and hyzer it in.or you can throw it left (backdoor). You don't want to be short middle as the pin is behind a huge clump of trees.

18.Ace run with creek running down the left side.I remember this was #1 when the course opened. No nifty lines needed just throw it right at it!

Cons:

Crappy tees. With concrete tees this course would be a lot better.

poor signage and hard to find holes for first-timers.Spray paint on the baskets help but are visually unappealing.

Grass is not mowed often enough half the time I played the grass was way to tall in the fairways.

Some of the holes just feel thrown together and some of the tees you just go "whah?" .You'll know what I mean (think #7)

Other Thoughts:

Good course but I'd rather play Arcadia if I was in the area. Will give you a decent challenge and is by no means a waste of time.

Fun course, some decent holes, especially when mowed 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good variety of shots, nice use of limited elevation available. Well-placed teepads. Ample parking. Very shady, which is perfect for TX summer. When mowed, is really nice.

Cons:

Signage could use some more detail. You need a map -- or better yet, locals -- to navigate the course for the first time. Some confusing places where which basket to throw to isn't clear.

Grass can get really long between mowing -- up to your knees -- which kills all skips and low shots and encourages bugs.

Other Thoughts:

My first playthrough of this course was in 2009 when it was newly put in. It's nice to see how it's worn-in over the years.

I've had the benefit of playing with friendly locals both times I've been (2009 and 2017). Not a stand-out course, but an enjoyable diversion and a good mix of shots. I'd give this course a 3.5 if freshly mowed, and a 3.0 otherwise. High "fun" factor, and the shade really is awesome for a Texas day. Creek is slow-flowing and does encourage a lot of bugs.

My Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 4, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has really come along way since it first opened. This course is a somewhat a fun and challenging course from beginning to end. There is a really good variety of short, long, left and right shots for both, left and right handed players. There are plenty of mando's spread throughout course, to keep the game challenging and not to mention, plenty of shot variety needed to score well on most holes. There are plenty of trees to make this course challenging and also provides shade in the hot summers. There are to sets of concrete tee pads on almost all holes, except for a couple of holes. There is also multiple pin locations on each hole to add challenge. There is signs on most holes providing distance to each pin. There is also a course map at hole 1 and after hole 9, to keep you heading in the right direction. There are plenty of trash cans and some benches on selected holes for use. There is plenty of parking throughout park for your convenience. And last but not least, there is a practice basket provided at hole 1, so you can get warmed up for your round.

Cons:

On really nice days, you might want to get there early because it can get really crowded!

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is very fun and is a must play if you are in the area. It can get very crowded on really nice days, which is a good sign, saying this is a very fun course to play.

Great technical course lots of mature trees and thread the needle shots. I must say after my improvement on Arcadia Park this course with its trees seemingly everywhere really humbled me!!! But at the same time the course was really fun to play and very challenging to this newbie!!!

Cons:

Course was not well marked, glad I had some vets with me to point me in the right direction. Also some more strategically located garbage cans wouldn't hurt. The dirt tee boxes were'nt great either and I can imagine this course being a nightmare with any kind of precipitation...

Great shadey course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

This course is a very good course to play during those hot sunny days in Texas. It is a very well shaded course. Only a few holes require you to play in the open sun. The majority of the course is played under a nice canopy of trees. Most holes require you to thread the needle to get good shots. The entire course is well maintained, mowed and no major thick brush to walk through or hide discs. I did not see any poison ivy.
A practice basket is provided by the #1 tee box near a picnic table.
An elevated/platform basket is on hole #11.

Cons:

Really not too much to complain about here. I have only played this course twice and that is my major complaint thus far. If I lived closer I would definity play this more often. If you like to really unleash strong power throws, you wont get a lot of open shots like that. More trash cans should probably be provide towards the end of the course. A large collection of trash by the #16 tee box sign was unsightly.

Other Thoughts:

While playing this last time, I was informed of a couple of mandatory's. These areas are spray painted on trees with orange paint. I will upload a picture.
This course is good for beginners and advanced players.

Thanks for reading and please rate my comment.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 28, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has a good mix of holes that require different kinds of throws. The low hanging trees require low, accurate, hard throws. There are few long holes in the open that you can rip. Another nice feature are the subtle elevation changes on some of the holes. This course is nice and shady for hot summer days and there are lots of trees to block the wind on windy days. There aren't usually too many throwers at once on the course, so traffic is not bad. No water hazards...at least not that you can't get your disc back from pretty easily. Hole 17 has the only water hazard during the dry summer behind the basket. This is a course that you do not have to worry about losing discs on. This is more of a technical course with a few holes that require tight throws through the trees and low shots. There are a lot of intricacies to this course to discover. It seems like I discover something new about a hole each time I go out. A few of the more challenging holes are holes 1, 3, 9 in the B position, 10 long, 12 and 17. Hole 15, originally titled "The Fortress", is my favorite at this course. It is a down hill, long drive, to a basket that is guarded by a wall of trees...and the new circular tee box is a nice addition.
A few OBs and mandos make the course extra challenging. There are benches and trash cans by some of the holes. All 18 holes now have concrete tee boxes. Several of the holes have multiple tee boxes and 2 pin positions. There are restrooms by the ballfields by hole one's tee box. There is a practice basket by the teebox for hole 1 and also by the long tee for hole 10. Pretty well secluded park where you will not be bothered by non-disc golfers much.

Cons:

This course is difficult to navigate your first time out! Print a map drom DGCR before you go or find someone out there that can tell you how the course plays out. A course map is posted by hole 1 and hole 9 so you can always take a picture on your phone and have that with you when you play. Most players that you find out there will be eager to help out if you have trouble finding your way around. Some of the fairways run a little close to each other for comfort, but as stated before, the course is rarely very crowded, making it a non-issue. Also, the mandatories help with this issue as well. When the grass is high, the course is not nearly as enjoyable as when it is cut. The course is in need of a few more trash cans by the tee boxes. The course sits in a low-lying area and when it is windy, it tends to swirl a lot rather than just blowing in one direction.
The worst part of this course is the baskets! They are the kind that have only 6 chains on the inner ring and can produce bad spits pretty easily...especially when wet or cold. The baskets are the one thing that bother me the most about this course...they are pretty bad. UPDATE We added 6 inner chains to every basket to eliminate the gaps in the chains. You still get the occasional bounce out, but not nearly as many blow throughs and bounces off the pole.
There are posts by the tee boxes to indicate the hole number as well as number plates on the baskets but the course is in need of better signage, both by the tee boxes for par, distance, etc, but also to show the OBs and the mandos. Signs are also much needed to help with navigation.

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course, where I play the vast majority of my rounds. This is a pretty unique course...different than all the other courses around Ft. Worth at least. It will teach you to execute accurate low flying shots. Hole 1 is the toughest hole out there. You're doing really well to grab a 3 on hole 1. Be careful not to overshoot hole 17. This is the one main hazard hole on the course where you don't want to end up in the nasty water in the drainage ditch. There are some OBs and Mandatorys on this course to be aware of that aren't really posted on any signs at the course. Beyond the creek bed and in water in the creek is OB on holes 8, 11, 17, and 18. There is a mando tree on hole 3 way out on the left side of the fairway that you have to stay to the right of. There is a double mando between the telephone poles on hole 4. There is a double mando to play on hole 8. There is a mando tree on hole 9 on the right side of the fairway shortly in front of the tee box that you have to stay to the left of. On hole 17, there is an OB line around the basket for the B pin position just past the bridge to indicate the area that is in bounds on the left side of the creek. All of these mandos (except for the double mando on hole 8) are intended for safety to keep drives off of fairways that run close to one another.
The course used to be a 9 hole and had great signage on each hole, but vandals have taken their toll and the layout changed with the change to 18 holes. Better signs showing par, distance, and obs and mandos would probably make this course a 4.0 for me. Navigation is still an issue here.
Draw doubles on Friday nights at 6:30pm draws a lot of people enjoying a laid back time of playing disc golf and hanging out. Bring lights because it finishes in the dark even in the summer time. Saturday morning singles at 9:30am alternates between North Park and Arcadia. Wednesday night singles during the summer starts at 6:30 and costs $8.
I have played a lot of courses across the country and have a good idea about what a 5 star course is like. I know this is not one, but I'm rating it a 5 to counteract all the ignorant jerks that have rated this course so lowly...most of which played it years ago while it had been taken over by the pipeline company that wrecked the course for a while. I've PM'd. I've reported the review, but to no avail. So I gotta do what I gotta do to help remedy the situation.

Pros:

Good use of avaiable space, holes do offer a variety of challenges from trees, to an annoying stream (not much water just enough to get your disc wet), and an elevated basket, Most of the course is shaded due to the trees so playes nicely on a hot day. Not many throwers either time i went which is a positive

Cons:

hard to follow if you havent played it before, each basket has the bottom part painted to show you to your next tee area, a single stripe, which is somewhat helpful unless somebody is being funny and turns the bottom which had happened on one of the holes (check out the pdga disc directory as it has a course map for it....very helpful) some of the fairways are very close together, and without the map may make it confusing on which basket you are suppose to throw to

Neat Course 2+ years drive by

Pros:

I thought this course was neat because of some of the tougher shots in the forest and the elevated shot where the hole is like 10 feet off the ground. Kind of an easier course to make ace runs at. Easy to birdie too....

Cons:

A little too easy even for the semi-serious players. A little hard to navigate at times..... Sometimes it was too easy throw an errant throw and still get an easy 3.

George, George, Look Out For That Tree 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 3, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There are some really tough shots to maneuver your disc around this somewhat dense forest of trees. There are a few holes that you can release the big throw on, but most of your shots need to be calculated. Many of the targets were hidden behind trees and were fun to figure out a way to get your disc in a position to even get a shot a birdie or par. Take note on which discs you take, because I can't imagine a round here without a good chop at a tree at some point. ;o) There are some good holes where some tough aces are possible. This was fun. I noticed that the neighboring ballpark does have restrooms open most of the time, so add this to the positives. There are 2 really cool holes to mention. #11 is a shot off a small cliff into the woods to a basket built up on a large wooden box with some large trees growing up around it. #15 is called the Fortress. IT is another shot off a high point long to a wall of trees. The basket is behind those trees. A huge hyzer can get there if your distance and heigth is on.

Cons:

As mentioned in other reviews, you will need the map or pair up with someone who has played this course before. Finding hole and target is about as tough as playing it. Many of the signs and tee lines have been torn up. However, after 1 or 2 times through, it should obviously get easier. Beware the bordering homes and their fences. If your disc goes over a fence, just be careful going after them, there are some big dogs that will take ownership of your disc BIG TIME! Originally, I could not find the multiple tees, I did eventually find that these are marked by a blue post further behind the regular ones. Also, as mentioned before dirt tees can be a problem after a good rain.

Other Thoughts:

The person managing the course takes pride in making this course challenging and I agree that he has done that. Everything was mowed and cleaned up well. Once you understand the course layout and the specific mandos,"Out of Bounds" in the middle of the course, I think you will agree. This is lots of fun, because you will need just about all your bag of tricks to manage even one round out here. This is a fun technical adventure. **This is also one of my home courses.

Update: Cement Tee Pads & benches are being installed and it is really helping with the days that follow a rain.

Cons:

Tee signs are somewhat lacking (some are on the gound and some do not show the correct hole number), Dirt/grass tee pads are not preferred.

The pros outweigh the cons, in my opinion. This is one of my favorite courses. Bring the linked map, til you get used to the layout.
