Highbridge Hills - Wisconsin

Is the Bear all on the property Mountain Man is acquiring? Wasn't sure since the map looked like maybe 1/2 of the holes were not my original Bear design or just parts of that design.

I knew Woodland and Chestnut were part of the main property. Did White Tail ever start to get developed? That was definitely down around JJ's house.

The remnants of whitetail are completely overgrown except a fairway that runs parallel to hole 9 woodland. even that is half overgrown. The backside of bear is close to johns property but was rogers before so im assuming its mtn mans now.

What I was told was that John cut out the back nine from memory just from having seen the plans. MM was hoping to get it back to as close to the original design as possible.

If possible could I get some insight as to what all needs to be done to get the campground licensed and operational again? My group is looking to come up Memorial Day weekend and just curious if we should feel confident things will be ok by then or if we should have other arrangements made up?

I'm walking the Chestnut Hills property today. Never been on this parcel. Can't wait to see what's behind the doors of the bunkhouse and bath house! I'll be submitting the campground permit application this week, once I get done with todays measurements.
So no guarantee of camping.

Chuck, per Tick, JJ put in the back holes based on memory of your walks and discussions. Hole 2 got changed to the dumbest tee shot in disc golf. I believe that with your assistance, the Bear will be the #1 course in the country.

We shoveled all of the tee pads on Blueberry Hill and Woodland Greens this week. Gold is next. We will be hauling and setting baskets this week. Opening soon!

13-15 is a bit monotonous. Would be cool to spruce that up somehow and hit the right side of 13 with the brush wacker

MM posted some pictures on his facebook page... someone removed the meter from the electric socket and cut the electrical and water lines on the hot water heaters in the shower house. Also, the water lines coming out of the well are held together with duct and electrical tape.

I still have rough course designs for the ski hill next to Big Top I did around 2008, but a new manager decided not to go that direction. Might have to check if they are open to it now.

Greetings,

I actually wandered into this thread after seeking information about what had happened to Highbridge Hills Sports Complex. A quick background.....

I moved up to north west WI about ten years ago from Madison, WI where I was an avid (and very amateur) dg player for many years, Token Creek being my home course and well loved. Moving north I lost track of playing as I built a house out by Iron River and found a job in Ashland, got married etc, etc so had not be able to really play. Every couple of years I would look for courses online and of course come across Highbridge, look over their website but just not have the time to get out there or the few other close courses. However this year I purchased some new discs and made the commitment to start getting out again. I'm not getting any younger (47). I moved up to do a lot of backpacking/canoeing/hunting/fishing etc but I still spend a lot of time on the computer (web developer) and was seeking even a little more time outside. Win/win. So I looked up Highbridge's website again to check things out and.............well it lead me to this thread and the drama.

I don't want to rehash anything and I'm still digging through the 266 pages of posts to get the full picture. Being local and understanding how it is up here I think I get the large picture of what the deal out there was. From what I also understand the user Mountain Man and some others are making a commitment of turning it around? I'm still digging backwards at this point so don't have all the facts. I'm still in a little shock that what I understood as a DG Mecca that was for some unknown reason actually in NW WI is going down.

Bottom line.....can I or how do I help?

I'm sure Mountain Man would love help on work days.

He's active on Facebook if you do that thing.

Or you can message me and I'll forward info to him.

Thanks Dan. I don't do social media other than a few hammock/backpacking forums. Too much screen time as it is with the career. I'll PM you my details if you want to forward them on.

I ended up reading all 266 pages of the thread last night. I couldn't look away. I had no idea. I've been poking around in the area for a long time on my own and volunteering for the North Country Trail Assoc. The Mellen / Highbridge always seemed like sleepy little hamlets. If you would have told me 2000+ people raves? were held there I would have laughed at you.

HBH Website?

After reading Uhtred's comments, I did a quick search on "Highbridge Hills Disc Golf". The first link is to highbridgehillssports.com, which states the course is closed and still has John's contact info.

Outside of Facebook and this site, there doesn't appear to be anything available for someone trying to find out about HBH.

It would be nice to get that site from John. I'm sure that's just another headache. But I'm hoping this is on the radar to help the players who aren't in the loop.
