Definitive shoe thread

seems like i'm the only one who prefers my plain jane, regular toe, broken-in work boots. they may not be light as tennis shoes, but they have a wide stable sole and the best ankle support i know of. When i play in my tennis shoes i'm all wobbly and unbalance off the tee pad, but not with my sh#t-kickers.

DG destroyed my Rockport sh*t-kickers.

I also have a pair of the Merrell Moab Ventilators, and got them on sale at REI for $80 or so. I've been playing with them on concrete teepads for most of this summer and other than a little dirt, I can't seem to see any significant signs of wear.

My only problem with them is they aren't waterproof. Otherwise the grip is great, they are really comfortable, and they breathe well.

Same here (except I didn't buy from REI), I bought some of the spay on waterproofing stuff but havn't used it yet. So far I am really liking them!

My feet are weird. I wear a wide in most brands but not in the Ventilators. They are very comfortable where as my feet were slipping in the wides. I also tried on the Moab Gore-tex in the mediums and they were to tight.

I have a pair of Asics Trail Attack 4's that are holding up pretty well. Better than my Brooks Cascadia's I had before that. I like my shoes bright...

Merrells are great I hear, alot of people in my league wear those. I wear New Balance because I wear a size 15 and I just couldn't jam my foot into the Merrells. The number of my NBs I have is 910. They are waterproof and have a big solid toe, used them about 50 times this summer and besides the dirt, there is hardly a sign of wear on the toe.

New Balance 920's. Can be found here:

They retail around $95 but I've seen them on Amazon as low as $35 in my size. I bought mine for $35 at a new Balance Outlet in the spring. Vibram footsoles and a snug fit (without socks.) Lightweight and feel like an extension of your foot. They drain quickly if you walk through puddles or have to hop in a pond. If the course is exceptionally muddy you will most likely slip.

This summer I shredded 2 pairs of Nikes and 1 pair of pretty nice Saucony shoes on the tees.
I have since invested $100 in a pair of Merrill hiking boots and I will probably be picking p the low top Moabs in the spring. I have had absolutely zero wear on the toes, which because I throw forehand, I tend to drag my right toe a bit after I push off. As I said, this absolutely trahsed my other shoes but the Merrills are way tougher than I expected.

I got some keen Targhee 2's, Great shoes however I wish I would have got the mids as the low cut ones kinda feel like I am wearing a sandal, they don't lace up very tight.

Also, not sure if you have Sports Authority near you, but they have a program to insure their shoes/boots for a year against any kind of wear. I got that on my Merrells thinking I might shred those too, but so far, it's not looking that way...

I was really looking at them, till you mentioned the part about slipping. I guess I will stick with my Hi-Tec waterproof hiking boots. I love New Balance shoes, and they are damn comfortable.

I was just given these for my birthday. I'll let you know what I think.

What model of Merrells are those again? I've been looking at Merrells a lot more lately, even though I'm probably going to wait till next year to see about picking up a pair. Don't plan to do a lot of DG in the snow, but maybe at least a round or two.

Oboz at REI. Awesome rubber grip soles that wrap around the edges and Goretex. Also lightweight. I chose them over the Merrells and have been truly satisfied.

My boots say they are waterproof, but after a round in light to medium rain, walking through puddles and standing water, my feet did get wet. Anyone have any shoes that no matter what , you feet stay dry?

Something with a gore-tex lining will keep your feet dry, especially if you get a shoe or boot that's all leather and do your own waterproofing to it as well. If you do that, put on a couple coats about 3 days apart right when you get the shoes, then a new coat or two every 6 months, and it'll help protect the leather and make the shoes less likely to develop leaks.

Horray probably getting some Merrel Moab Gortex XCR thanks to money off from buying bowling shoes at Rogans shoes. Unless they are not as comfortable as the ventilators then I may stick with the radius that I tried on. Any other suggestions are welcome...the radius on the carpet seemed to grip a lot and I don't think I'll like that if it really grips the pads.

Hmm, I guess I will have to do that next time. I have my boots in front of the heater right now drying them out.

I guess I need to do the belt and suspenders thing , to stay out of trouble.

Adidas Sambas. Used them all summer long and no sign of wear. Nice hard sole especially the pivot point on the ball of the foot. The heel is very nice for hills etc, nice grabby surface.

Wikipedia said:
The Adidas Samba is an indoor soccer training shoe. It has been among Adidas' most popular, best selling shoes in recent times, the second best sold Adidas shoe ever with over 35 Million sold pairs worldwide, behind the legendary Adidas Stan Smith. It is produced in a variety of color schemes, yet the classic black with three white stripes is the most popular. The shoe features a tan gumsole that distinguishes it from other Adidas shoes.

The shoe was first produced in 1950 to enable association football players to train on icy hard ground (hence the suction on the gumsole). Its original design featured the classic three stripes, as well as the gold trefoil on the foldable tongue. As years progressed, the Samba evolved into the Samba Millennium (which was made without the extended tongue) and the Samba '85. Classic models of the shoe are still in production, under the name Classic M. While the original model is sometimes used for training, street play, and futsal, it is more popularly worn as a casual wear shoe much like the Chuck Taylor All-Star.
