DFW disc golf

Can't believe no one has mentioned that Fritz park in Irving is now 18 holes, they are still working on signs and tee pads, but it is playable.

I haven't played Fritz in a few years. I keep hearing about the changes, sounds pretty legit. The park when I played it definitely had the potential I thought, I will be checking it out for sure.

This is in now way accurate, just the GENERAL location of the tee boxes/pins!!!!!

The only hole that I am not too sure about is hole 14, there are telephone poles all the way down the right side (by the road) that have all mados to the left, but then there is another mando next to the trees by 13's tee box forcing you right, through that area for a good 100' (hole is 625' if I remember correctly). It just seems forced and a bad shot can wind up in yards of the residents across the street.

Yes I made this in paint, yes it is awesome.

thanks for the map!

i just heard about this. can't wait to go check it out.
seems like they lost old holes 7 & 8? and a long walk between 5 & 6 that crosses 2's fairway.

Some of the "Old Man Group" I play in went out to Fritz yesterday. It's nice they have the new holes. Hole 14 is just bad design. Go ahead and move the basket to a shorter position in front of the trees it's currently behind, then all the criticism goes away. It will be "just another open hole", but it will be fair. I like tough holes, but it's ridiculous in its current position.

All in all, it's still Fritz Park (overgrown pecan trees in need of trimming beside a creek that literally stinks). If I lived near there, I'd play it regularly. Since I don't live nearby, I'll always go to Turner Park if I'm in that neighborhood.

On a positive note... the new holes are fun and worth going to play at least once.

I played The Cedars in Fate, TX today. The course is in the best shape I've seen it in so far. The front nine has had very well thought out trimming done and bridges have been put in place where needed.

The back nine still looks the same as it did last spring. Bridges are badly needed on 14 and 17. 17 is the "signature hole" and you can't get to the tee pad without getting your feet wet. Too bad.

The city has been mowing regularly.

My son hates The Cedars and I can't get him to play there. Every time we went he had a frustrating round and wasn't having any fun. It is better since the trimming, but the back nine is still very rustic and meh, really. Spotters are helpful if you want to stop those trees from keeping your discs.

I think Chris and crew did a great job with the land that they had to work with though. On the plus side, the DGCR SSE is a bit off and could really improve my rating if I played there often!

My only real problem with it is that it is hard to play the Cedars with Harry Myers being so close.

Back Nine at Cedars is my favorite. Much more challenging. Take your son to Lorch park. Super challenging 36 holes. After that he will love Cedars with the exception of the walk for 17 tee box.
G$

We've played Lorch, both Beaver and Coyote three times now and had a great time each time. I think it was just circumstance at The Cedars more than anything else. Still, if I want to play there I will have to go without him because he will never again set foot on the property. I personally think that The Cedars will improve with traffic and use.

Yeah, I turned my Valkyrie over into those cedars on that hole. No way to tell which one caught it. I didn't find it until I was looking for a different disc while playing hole ten going the other direction. I think the wind had finally blown it out and onto the ground.

Cover from cold winds will be a big plus for playing The Cedars this winter. I'll be playing there fairly often when it's cold outside.

It's too hot and muggy to play there in the summer. Saturday was great with high temps in the 70s. I played Harry Myers and then the Cedars. Great day. I like The Cedars a lot. The guys in our group are pretty evenly talented. Punishing for bad shots separates us on the scorecard. I think that factor increases the fun / frustration.

It's definitely not a course for wild throws.

This I think, is why my son hates it. The last time we played it (a year ago) he was barely a few months in. Those cedars are NOT forgiving of errant throws. They catch your disc and they hide it.

Who got the course in the ground at trophy club? I've been dropping some subtle hints to the park and rec director and he seems interested. They may also have 40 acres of unusable land with some good elevation change as well.

Thinking about traveling down to DFW around Xmas/New Years, primarily the northeast section of town. Planning on Selah Ranch, Trey Texas Ranch, Harry Myer, maybe Town Lake, Alex, Clark, Bill Allen, Lake Lewisville. Nothing's written in stone yet, but I definitely wanna hit the Selah/Trey combo.

Can anyone recommend a couple of good place to tenet camp near Selah/Trey Tex ranch, and another closer to the DFW courses?

Just looking for a place to pitch a tent and shower.

i don't know who was responsible for the original 9 holer but the Dynamic Discs Lewisville guys did the redesign. i imagine they'd be very interested in doing another course. i'm very interested in them doing another course. :D

where is this land and why is it unusable?

Maybe not unusable but he said its off of Byron Nelson by 114. I asked if he had any any land they couldn't use for regular parks with some elevation change and that's what he told me. I'll ask him this week how serious he is and if he would be ok with me getting someone in contact with him.

I would love to see a course in Roanoke (a good course could make for an outstanding day of disc golf between there and Trophy Club Park) and would be curious as to where this land is.

It gets pretty cold to be camping that time of year down here. There is campsites at joe pool lake state park that are pretty good.
