For years iv played in jeans and light boots,,this year my o'l lady bought me shorts like you boys wear,so i had to wear them. Comfy i do admite, but got a good dose of poison on my legs. The question is what preventitive maintanince do you use [ other than watching where i step]long socker socks, lotions etc...

Well i'm not really allergic to it so I don't worry with it that much, but I don't think there is much to do other than look out for 3 leaved vines and wear long socks like you mentioned.

I've gotten struck with poison ivy weeks after the fact. The oils were on my bag from a different course and I touched the bottom of my bag and had it on my hands. I thought I was immune to it, but it was not the case. I have a Jack Russell and he is low to the ground and I've gotten it from him as well. Has anyone gotten poison ivy from their discs? I think that happen to me last season, I threw into a patch, and then had it on my hand, which spread to other parts of my body. Poison ivy is no fun.

so the disc that went into ivy,to prevent further comtamniation should i bag the disc until i can properly clean it or just keep on?

I wear convertible pants such as Columbia Titaniums or the REI brand. They are great. You shouldnt have any problemo with PI if you are wearing these. Unzip the legs, and you got you some cargo shorts.

For some reason, even when I wear shorts I never get any PI.

Assuming by your nickname, you're a carpenter. Your palms should be thick enough to handle it. Just remember to rub your eye right after.

no i work for a battery manufacturer, woodcutter reverts to a hobby, i have a wood shop in my basment i make jewelery boxes, small cabenets ,pic frames etc,,,

Since you are in PA there is something called "water weed" that grows all over the place. It has a hollow stem and is about 0.5 inches to 0.75 inches in diameter. It has chambers in the stem kinda like bamboo does. It also has large green leaves. This stuff is AMAZING! Fold the stem together and squeeze it like you are ringing out a wet towel. The liquid that comes out will destroy poisen ivy

I've romped through enough poison ivy chasing errant throws that I like to think I've developed an immunity. I still get poison ivy all the time, but it doesn't even bother me anymore.

At least that's what I tell myself. Mind over matter, baby.

ya,, your right come to think of it, when i was plaing a guy in my pack grabed one [i supose] and gave it to me to aply i used on a spot ,it did stop an itch[a scratch from a thorn i suppose],i didnt know if he knew what he was talking about so i used it sparingly [hell it could have been somthing worse] but it worked in the are i aplied to, wish i looked closer to the plant for future.

I don't use any precaution. I'll tromp through poison oak, ivy, sumac patches to get ANY disc and I'll even go so far as to swim in nasty stagnant water (if it's my own disc). no precaution here. I usually only break out from the poison on my first time of the year and I'm done for the rest of the year.

as for your question about the disc that went into poison, just use it lol.

Tecnu is the money.. If applied within 3 hours of contact, you are solid

As a kid I would get poison ivy and I would need shots because I would get it so bad. I've also done many of the dose packs in my life to get rid of it. After years of playing disc golf I hardly even notice it. I just get into it and throw my shot. I have always assumed that you can develop an immunity over time. Jump in it and roll around.

I think we have this in Michigan as well, we call it bamboo, or bamboozell. I've never heard of this remedy, but I'm willing to try it! Thanks for the tip!

Since poison ivy takes anywhere from 5-10 days to show up prevention is the best measure. Obviously wearing pants is the best option but it is just too hot sometimes to do that. So if you think you may have been in some poison ivy you are supposed to rinse the area with cold water because hot water opens the pores and lets the oil in. I use something called Tecnu, you can get it at most stores, it removes the oils and has an abrasive in it. It also helps dry out the area if you do have it, I used it twice a day for 4 days and it was almost gone by the fifth.

i'm super allergic to poison ivy, if i get it, i have to be hospitalized. two ways to combat it, throw on the fairway  and get Technu oil. it's super effective at removing the poisonous oils from your skin if you can get it on within 5 hours of possible poison ivy contact. i have a bottle of it in my bag, great stuff but it REAKS :gross:
