I had my one hour lesson with Henry this morning on improving my drive. The guy is a class act and a very good teacher. He was bombing Star Destroyers.
By the end of the lesson he had found two pretty big flaws in my form that immediately added about 50-75 feet to my drive. I was not keeping the disc on the same plane all the way through and the big one was I was pulling my arm down with my follow through right after I'd throw the disc.
As soon as I kept my follow through on the same plain, boom. It feels really weird as my entire disc golf career I've followed through incorrectly. But now that I can see what I'm doing with a little field time I feel really, really confident about my drive. There were a bunch of things I thought I knew about how to throw and what I was doing only to find I was misunderstanding concept and certain things. Henry explained things easily and it's changed the way I think about my game.
Oh yea and after a lesson like this I don't recommend playing a round right away. The problem was with great power comes great responsibility and apparently a lack of control. I was overthrowing holes like crazy and I cleared the entire field of trees on hole #7 at Bradford. Never did that before. It wasn't even a straight throw, it was a giant hyzer.
Then on my most hated hole, #11 I grip locked my Prodigy D4 and it was gone. Like I set off a bottle rocket. It was low and hot right over the tops of the massive jungle of cedar trees and disappeared. I have no idea how far it went but it's thick in there. I looked for 1/2 hour but no luck. I hate those disc eating trees.
Anybody thinking of taking a lesson from Henry it will help you greatly no matter your level. Highly, highly recommended.
